Tapes 'n Tapes sign to XL (sister of Matador)

Everyone's talking about Tapes 'n Tapes signing to XL, home of M.I.A., Devendra Banhart, The White Stripes, and the Raconteurs. Selected quotes from the St. Paul Pioneer Press below...

----

"We're all kind of freaking out," said singer-guitarist Josh Grier. "We've all been really excited and (now) we can finally talk about it."

----

One member of the band won't be part of the new deal, however. Bassist Shawn Neary left Tapes 'N Tapes earlier this month.

"It's a bummer, Shawn is a great guy," said manager Wiese. "There is really no 'official' word, it was just time for it to happen. It just didn't work out."

----

"It started pretty much right after the first blog wrote about the band in November," said manager Keri Wiese. "We got a call from Capitol Records the next day."

In the months since, Wiese said, the band has talked to dozens of labels, both large and small, that expressed interest in Tapes 'N Tapes. A high-profile series of concerts in New York in January helped fuel interest, as did the band's trip to the South by Southwest music festival in Texas.

I'm a total nerd for knowing and ever CARING, but for the record, I believe it was Ear Farm that talked about them in October. And, James, agreed to a point, yeah it sucks they didn't live out the CYHSY dream, but i mean, they did well while it lasted, this'll give them a chance to really take over the world. When you love something...set it free....

Yay good for them, glad they signed to XL and not to a major. I'm not surprised Capitol was all over them. They have been making some good moves lately (Decemberists, SOUND Team)

"they're not even the best band outta Mpls right now either, just goes to show you..."

No shit, it's funny how one of the more "oh, this band is okay" bands is being talked about by everybody.

I still think it's funny that they'll play a 7th St. Entry show opening up for a band and nobody knows who they are.

yeah, and the fact that they're STILL playing the 7th Street Entry next month, which holds 250, and likely won't even sell out.

ah well, once they're even bigger i'm sure tons of Mpls kids will latch on the bandwagon and pretend they were on all along.
