(underhyped) Riverboat Gamblers | 2006 Tour Dates, CBGB
FROM THE COMMENTS
jim: name a band that isnt 'over hyped' please.
sam: riverboat gamblers

"The best band without a major-label deal at SXSW '06 doesn't want much for signing up: 'We want ear-tube phones,' singer Mike 'Teko' Wiebe told the crowd at Emo's, 'so we can look like assholes talking to no one as we walk down Sixth Street. In return, the Gamblers guarantee punk-rock catharsis. Ripping through fourteen songs in half an hour, they baptized pogoers and badge-holders alike in sweat and yell-along choruses as Wiebe, a beanpole Iggy Pop, literally bounced off walls, crawled atop the audience as far as his mike cord allowed and hung by his ankles from the rafter as he sang." [ROLLING STONE'S DAVID FRICKE]
Listen @ Purevolume or @ Myspace

You know... it's nothing I'd ever listen to recorded, but their live show is AWESOME.

These guys don't deserve coverage on this highly respected blog...must've been a slow news day.

also, check out the marked men...new album out soon on swami...from denton as well...
thx bv for bringing attention to the band...the riverboat gamblers just play their guts out every night...i caught them at sin-e a few years ago and was a fan ever since. their new cd is a bit more teen punk than i prefer but it still has more heart than most music these days.

they are best experienced live. what's up with Volcom records? they sign these so called punk bands and then put 'em in their heavily logo-ed clothes and park big vans with VOLCOM painted on the side in front of the venue.
