Willie Nile revival | Living Room show

"A revival of the Willie's is happening right before our eyes. Willie Nelson released his gay cowboy song on itunes a couple weeks ago and now Willie Nile has released an album February 21. I went to Mercury Lounge last night to see this rock icon perform...." [One leg of a tripod]

It was the recent Mercury Lounge show, and a Housing Works benefit show around the same time, that got rock 'icon' Willie Nile on my radar. Check out the above MP3s and the below celebrity endoresements....

Willie "has recorded and played live with The Who, Ringo Starr, Lucinda Williams, Roger McGuinn, Barenaked Ladies, Tori Amos, Richard Thompson, The Clash, Elvis Costello, The Pretenders, Loudon Wainwright, The Band, John Mellencamp, and many others. Several bands and musicians have recorded his songs including the Hooters, Richie Havens, and Curtis Stigers." [Willie Nile fan page]

On April 26th, he's playing the Living Room in NYC (with Rich Pagano and Jimmy Vivino as his band I think) (and Kieran Mcgee as opener). It's been on sale for a while. Maybe it hasn't sold out yet because he "was an up-and-coming singer-songwriter in the 1980s, but he never really arrived, and then he mostly disappeared for a long time......isn’t really very original.....is a poser on the politically conscious tip... he does a song called 'The Day I Saw Bo Diddley in Washington Square' and fails to have any actual Bo Diddley in it..."
