Postcards from Italy
Mount Wroclai (Idle Days)
"Who the f*ck is Lily Allen? I take one week off from the Internet, and three (3!) f*cking bands pop up as the next greatest thing ever. Beirut? Lily Allen? At least I knew I didn't care about Cold War Kids before I left for LA." [Central Village, post-Coachella]

"Beirut is the brainchild of Brooklyn-based musician Zach Condon, but his sound is more Prague than Park Slope. And don't be fooled by his weary voice: Condon is only 19. With assistance from members of A Hawk and a Hacksaw and Neutral Milk Hotel, Beirut's inventive Gulag Orkestar conjures up Old World sights and sounds: Parisian street cafes, Gypsies, silent movies, marching bands, funeral dirges. Created without guitars, Gulag Orkestar instead incorporates an orchestra full of mandolins, ukuleles, violins and glockenspiels." [Kathryn Yu for NPR]

I noticed on ticketweb, and the knitting factory website that Boulevard, was added to the lineup.
Has the Beirut set been pushed back?
I'll be at trying to make the Pinbank show after, and I don't want to miss it. (and i'm sure the other half of the audience will be trying to make the phoneix show)
Does anyone have set times??

and according to the Ba Da Bing Website, he's on the Bowery Ballroom bill with Jens Lekmen, July 21.

i dunno, i am not a hater by any means, but after listening to as many tracks as i could find on the various blogs, i felt very lukewarm about the songs. nothing stood out as spectacular, but maybe that will change in time. has anyone seen a live show? is that good?

fun fact: he's named after the drinking game, not the place.

there's a place?
is there a place called flipcup?

Seriously, how is this different from Devotchka? Save the fact that the singer's voice isn't as good?

since the knitting factory website says that doors are at 8pm, i highly doubt that boulevard will go on exactly at 8...

I'm so excited about Beirut. I haven't heard any Devotchka recordings except for How it Ends, but I did see them open for m ward, and I love Beirut a thousand times better.
And all this blog "hype" is bullshit. I never heard of them until I read the Other Music newsletter.

A member of Neutral Milk Hotel played on the album and the band compares themselves to Neutral Milk:
