Art Brut & Dirty on Purpose playing Siren too | Wilco on Conan
DIRTY ON PURPOSE

Thx Nora for pointing out the press release which adds Art Brut & Dirty on Purpose to the previously announced 2006 Siren Festival lineup.

'Pop Tarts Suck Toasted' says Sam Champion & Spinto Band are also rumored to be playing the festival. It doesn't look like Wilco are, but they will be on Conan O'Brien Friday night, May 12th.

i agree that art brut are good but dont you feel they are sort of milking their 15 minutes here in nyc?

well, if i could venture a guess, it'd be that many bands based in london play that town quite often, say weekly or twice a month. their fans will go to nearly every show, and because of that, the people in the audience get to know each other pretty well, and going to the same band's gigs becomes a big part of one's social life. (and by giving away cheap guestlist spots, the fans can afford to see their favorite bands multiple times).
whereas, some bands based in new york only play the city every so often (for various reasons, like needing a minimum number of people paying to get in every time). and the audience might instead be comprised of people who've heard the album and will check out the band live only once a year or so. as opposed to monthly.
so perhaps art brut's focus on playing live so much could be part of that london gigging mentality? just a thought.

"the people in the audience get to know each other pretty well, and going to the same band's gigs becomes a big part of one's social life."
i think that happens here too.

How the hell are they gonna play Leipzig one day and Coney Island the very next?

oh i have no doubt that's true, jerry. i made a point to say 'some' bands througout the post up there.
but having spent some time on both sides of the atlantic, i've personally had far fewer moments of meeting people i didn't already know at nyc gigs. it depends on the level of success of the bands of course, and sometimes other things too, but i feel this is pretty fair critique.
