Art Brut/Ghostface/Misshapes playing private party tonight
I WASN'T INVITED, WERE YOU?
"On May 23rd, Blender magazine, in partnership with DKNY Jeans, will celebrate its milestone fifth anniversary issue with a Birthday Blowout at Studio 450 in Manhattan. The party, also sponsored by Ford Mustang, Virgin Mobile and Patron Tequila, will feature live performances from legendary rapper Ghostface Killah, London's indie-rock sensation Art Brut and a DJ set from New York's hipster elite, The MisShapes." this is lame. i got an invite and rsvp'ed yesterday, and this is what i got back:
Unfortunately due to capacity and overwhelming response, we are fully committed; we won't be able to accommodate your RSVP for the RoofDeck (legal capacity is only 400). However if you wish to attend the after party at Guest House (on 27th St. bet 10th & 11th Ave) it's not a problem.
Please accept my sincere apology.
i work at a company that works with blender, that's why i got the invite. lame!!

I'll be heading over there. I'm hoping Ghost guests on Art Brut's set. Two of the cooler front men around. I like the comments he dropped about NYC - straight ghetto.

I wonder if Craig Marks one friend in the world, Courtney Love, will be there...? Maybe Killa could punch them both in the face.

BD, how was the Alice In Chains show? any guests?

I wasn't planning on going to AIC, but ended up standing right against the stage on the right corner by the door just shy of the mosh pit, and I actually had a good time, even though they're not really my kind of music.
The band and the crowd had great energy. About a 70 minute show. No big deviations from the setlist, which consists of all old material that's been played at the cities leading up to NYC, and no guests at all.
The new lead singer sounded really good too. And during one of the many times Jerry Cantrell came over by me to play his solos, I touched his ass -- I have no idea why, but it was there, so I did.

AIC show was great. I'm so glad I was able to go. No special guests but the new singer really did a great job and singing in a similar style to Layne w/o being a mimic. Jerry's guitar-playing was sick, as usual, and he ended up following the crowds lead and jumping into the mosh pit at the end of the show for a little crowd surfing. They played almost all of my favs and closed, of course, with Man in a Box.

Art Brut's set was about 40 minutes long, but the crowd wasn't that into it. They didn't quite get it I guess. They did their best to keep the energy high, but it just wasn't the same as their club gigs when people are paying to see them. Ghost's set was cool, he was on stage with about 9 other MC's and a couple of guys in the background smoking blunts. He touched on some old Wu stuff and did a short tribute to ODB. Cee-lo and Dangermouse were there and Ghost shouted out to them toward the end of his set. Russel Simmons was around, Tyson Beckford, Seth Myers, a LOT of models, etc.
