"Blue Cheer was a San Francisco-based rock group of the late 1960s and early 1970s, who helped to pioneer heavy metal music.....They finished recording an album in Virginia in Winter 2005..." [Wikipedia]
Blue Cheer is touring this summer. They'll hit Maxwell's in Jersey, Northsix in Brooklyn, and CBGB in Manhattan. On June 25th they're playing the VICE Intonation Music Festival of all places. That puts them on a bill with Annie, Bloc Party, Boredoms, Ghostface, Jon Brion, Jose Gonzalez, Lady Sovereign, The Streets, The Sword, and more. When they're all hanging out backstage, Blue Cheer can brag that Pitchfork likes them best.

it is critical to note if Leigh Stephens is on this tour. Without him it is not Blue Cheer.

While Leigh Stephens was good, they are doing fine without him. Go see the show and see. If anything, Dickie and Paul are a strong part of the BC sound. Those drums!

Dickie and Paul have been killing it without Leigh for years. Nothing against Leigh but the sound is true Blue with or without. love you both very much.

blue cheer beat, bashed and rumbled the subterranean cafe du nord in san francisco last saturday, august 5....... duck mcdonald on guitar killed it !! vicious and beautiful tone, paul whaley's a fuckin' monster, it was loud....... i was a bit twisted on psylocibin, but i'm pretty sure leigh stephens played for a cover of red house, and it kinda sucked.... amps kept breakin' & shit. missed the last song -- if anyone can confirm or deny the identity of the extra guitarist at that show & knows if he played for the last song & also what that song was, please post..................rock on

That was Tony Rainier sitting in with Blue Cheer at Cafe Du Nord in SF. Tony was the BC guitarist in the mid 80s.
