Danielson played Northsix, playing KF, won 'best new music'

DANIELSON @ NORTHSIX | 5/13/2006 (cred)

Last time I saw Danielson play (@ Mercury Lounge opening for Sufjan Stevens) he was dressed like a tree. Saturday night (May 13, 2006) he looked more like a boy scout. Sufjan was in the audience. I wasn't. May see him at Knitting Factory on July 26th though. The rest of the tour dates previously posted. Pitchfork just made (his new album) Ships 'best new music'.

I've heard rumors that Daniel Smith is a bigot and a homophobe, which though isn't surprising, I still highly doubt.

Can anyone confirm this?

How was the show?

daniel smith and friends were wonderful! jeffrey lewis was quite an opener -- history of communism part III (complete with his cartoons in book form on stage) was one of the craziest things i've seen. in addition to sufjan, all three trachtenburg family slideshow players were in attendance.

Danielson was so amazing on Saturday. I wasnt expecting much out of them. I thought it would actually get irritating after a while. But i was completely wrong. The entire show was so wonderful.

Have a long review of the show and several pics over @ www.merryswankster.com today if anyone is further interested.

The show, from start to finish, was so earnest. And musically "Ships" is more...dare I say it...Arcade Fire-y? with a feeling of catharsis to it rather than spastic manic-godliness. Jeffrey Lewis to open, the anti-folk hero, was totally unexpected (at least by me) It's probably best that I didn't see Sufjan in the audience because I might have turned into a puddle on the floor. Or thought I'd finally made it to heaven.

I wish I could have been there...

I wrote about the album today and think it's one of the best albums of the year, so far.
