Gnarls Barkley played Webster Hall
GNARLS BARKLEY @ WEBSTER HALL | MAY 22, 2006

I love "Crazy" as much as the next guy, but I don't really care for the whole Gnarls Barkley album. That's probably why I didn't end up going to their first NYC show at Webster Hall last night (May 22, 2006). 'Pop-Tarded' took the above pic and said was "not the most amazing concert in the world". Musicsnobbery called it "a quick and fun set"

totally agree about the whole album. It seems that a lot of the reviews are glowing, but it seems like they get a pass simply for having one really great track. The rest of the album is not very good.

Even though it was a fairly short set, I thought it was a pretty fun show. Nice to actually see a NYC crowd dance. Plus how many times can I say I went to a concert and saw Jay Z and Diddy. I have some photos up at my flickr.

I was thinking George Clinton circa forever.

right, but since Beck did the parody originally, it has now become a parody of a parody

whatever, it was a super fun show that would have been even better if more of the audience was actually into soul/hip hop and not just there because of the hype on sites like pitchfork. cee-lo was amazing (though i'd like to never again see a man that size in gold lame stretch pants). and they did a really great job carrying it off with a live band.

dude, if david byrne was there, does that mean that GB are the new Arcade Fire?

i didn't go to the show, but i disagree about the album review. i have a special place in my heart for good, soulful hip-hop and r&b, and i think that album is refreshing. "smiley faces," "just a thought," "who cares" and their version of "gone daddy gone" are great.

agreed, the show was hot and the album is as refreshing as when at the end of an episode of the Jetsons you find out George didn't really get fired.
en addition, gnarls barkley live virtuously...
