I think the Brooklyn music scene that flourished in the wake of 9/11 is totally fucking disgusting. But now that the incessant drinking and dancing have calmed down, where are the god damn protest musicians of our generation? Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert have become the Bob Dylan and Joan Baez of our time. The Brooklyn music scene has been a complete artistic failure, albeit a success in capitalizing on 9/11 and the attention it brought to New York.

That picture of the Strokes' setlist is, of course, a fabrication.

MIA can't spell. Yeesh. "turtel"?!?

Aaron, please post a link to your Brooklyn protest music.

Aaron - I feel like a lot of the noise scene in Brooklyn and elsewhere is very political, engaging with the confusion, violence, and anarchy of the world as it is now. but pop music even in a broad sense is defined by accessability, which Baez and Dylan had - but doesnt so much apply to forms that are defined by their own assaultiveness.

m.i.a is a total fake. when i met her last year she talked like a total valley girl and without all of that "turtel" "liming" bs. it's all an act.

krist-
Do they also not use the letter "g" when "writin?"

Posted by Tim | May 22, 2006 10:14 AM

tim, strangely enough, it is.

maybe their progressive writin' techniques are the reason they are not allowed to enter our country.

I just try to emulate out of pure jealousy.
