"About three songs into her set, Neko Case gave up on it. Hail the size of dice had the crowd shouting in excitement and alarmed pain." [Seattlest]

yeah- we were up at the press tent when that shit hit. it seemed rather biblical. ha ha. there was lightining in all four directions too- n, s, e, w. at one point, we were kind freaked cuz the press tent was made of four poles sealed into the wet grass- kinda like a giant conducter. oh yeah, and according to the workers there, it has never hailed like that at a concert at the gorge.

still, was pretty crazy experience. especially the mass exodus of attendees leaving the festival heading for cover. and one of the bands that had their set canceled pulled a van up, dropped in a cd and started rhyming over the beats from the van's stereo system. so that was cool....the flaming lips set was amazing of course.

What really sucked is after waiting two hours soaked to the bone, Neko got bumped. Not to mention two hours of silence while they rain/hail proofed everything and squeegied the stage. Fortunately everyone was cool and the stagehands were kind enough to throw out the blue tarps to the crowd. Big thanks to the guys who held a frisbee and a pizza box over my head when the sky opened up and pelted us with its fury. The hail welts on the back of my neck will heal. But the memories will last forever.

I guess Neko inspired Mother Nature to commiserate with her.
