Phoenix @ Bowery Ballroom, NYC | pics
DOWNLOAD: If I ever feel better (MP3)

Last night (May 10, 2006) worked out perfectly. Beirut went on almost an hour later than scheduled, but there was still ample time after their set to get to Bowery Ballroom to see Phoenix who put on a great show.

I saw them last April at Irving Plaza. This show was definitely much better - owing perhaps to the better drummer at this show. P.S. Sofia Coppola was in the audience.

Nice photos. The first shot actually has me in it taking photos. Here are some of my shots.

Great show last night, although I'm kind of *eh* on some of the new material. Too Strokes-y and guitar driven. Great crowd energy though.

Excellent, high energy show. They should make the drummer an official member of the band b/c he's nuts. And yeah, the new material is unquestionably more Strokes-y than the last record, but very well done all the same.

Phoenix has always been just the four guys Thomas Mars (vocals), Christian Mazzalai (guitar), Laurent Brancourtz (guitar) and Deck D’arcy (bass). As far as I know, Thomas is quite a good drummer and in the studio they combine live drumming with programmed stuff. I guess if they have a good creative chemistry going with the 4 guys they don't want to mess with it by adding a permanent drummer...

does anyone know what brand of guitars the two guitar players use? They look like Fender Telecasters, but I know for a fact that they arent because the design is slightly different. Maybe it's a european guitar company that makes a knock-off of the telecaster?
