Rothko closed for the month | shows cancelled, moved
"The club was shut down after last Thursday's Blues Traveler show, when the buildings department determined that the two-year-old venue's floors needed reinforcing. Owner Rory Maher is renovating the club for the next month or so and diverting his bookings to other spots around the city. A new, improved Rothko will arrive just in time for summer. 'I need a vacation,' Maher quipped." [Tricia Romano]
"Rothko has been shut down until further notice so we have been forced to cancel the upcoming May residency. The May 9th show with Hotel Lights may be moved to a new venue, more info on this as soon as it becomes available" [Jennifer O'Connor]

I hope Rory Maher takes a bath on this. He's a cheap bastard who doesn't keep his word, underpays his talent and lies about it. Fuck him and fuck Rothko.

they are just finding that out now. Those floors have been weak since the day the placed opened. It would be nice if he put in real bathrooms too.

cheap bastard? i wonder who wrote that. i think it's pretty well known rory maher and the rothko staff treated artists better than any other club in town.

Nope, he's definitely a cheap bastard. I once saw him paying a hotel room bill and then asking the girl he was with for half. Eeewww!

this muze guy is funny, but you shouldn't throw around crap like that hotel comment. its one thing to not like his booking policy, but to say stupid things like that which aren't true just makes you look that much less credible.
i played at rothko many times, met rory and thought he and the club were as gracious as any in nyc. whoever muze is, he/she is obviously just a disgruntled musician who makes the rest of us look bad.
