damn. damn. damn. I wanted to go so bad, but the moons were not aligned and my life prevented it.
He'll keep calling me, he'll keep calling me until I come over. He'll make me feel guily. This is uh... This is ridiculous, ok I'll go, I'll go, I'll go, I'll go, I'll go. What-- I'LL GO. Shit.

Amazing, amazing concert. Go on Wednesday if you can. And for god's sake, don't miss Frog Eyes (best act of the night).

What time did sunset rubdown go on?
Posted by MDK | May 23, 2006 10:38 AM
Great show. SR went on at 10:20ish. Off by 11. Although the highlight for me was when my less indie-knowledgable date nudged me to ask if Spencer was John Mayer....

they were scheduled to start at 10 and wound up going on closer to 10:20

Frog Eyes was the best act of the night??? Kevin Shields must be out of his mind -- and I can only assume this isn't THAT Kevin Shields, or I need to seriously reevaluate everything I think I know about music. Frog Eyes was just terrible -- Carey Mercer was wildly out of control, seemed to be on something potent, and clearly infuriated the other members of his band -- Spencer Krug repeatedly signaled for the booth to turn Mercer's mic down and everyone on stage besides Mercer looked embarassed. Didn't sound anything like the band normally sounds -- it was just painful, totally miserable. Anyone else agree? Tell me I'm not crazy...

Am I the only person who thought the live-mixing that night was HORRIFIC. You could barely understand Spencer over that 60hz electric hum, the reverb was turned up way to high (like a fucking karaoke mic) and the midrange was blown out. Mercury lounge needs someone halfway competent mixing. Still, great set by Beirut and great set by Sunset Rubdown. Mercer needs to lay off the meth.

amen on on the crazy mercer point. what a disappointment/train wreck.
i don't understand half of what spencer krug's saying anyway (i heard that the rest of the band didn't even know some of the lyrics til they sat down and recorded), so i don't know that it was the sound as much as the voice.
