The Concretes' gear stolen in NYC

Some of the Concretes' gear was stolen after their show at Bowery Ballroom in NYC last week. They wrote this letter....

Hey cats!
So, what are the new news? Well, we are out touring in America, and it is great and fun and fantastic. But we have definitely gotten our fair share of strife as well on this one. In short, this is what's been going down, starting with the bad news:
Some assholes stole all our guitars, one organ and one euphonium from our locked trailer in New York. That means stealing a major part of our sound and it sucks so hard and we are really quite fucking upset about it. If you are offered a really sweet deal on some vintage instruments in the NY-area then please first check against these serial numbers. In case of a match, report to us and give the seller a good punch in the face.
Good news then... Or rather mixed emotions. We have been offered to appear on a major UK TV show. Not only is it flattering and crazy (they have like more viewers than the population of Sweden), it is also what is usually labelled "a great opportunity". Bad thing is it is right in the middle of our tour and means we had to cancel Vancouver. It was a painful decision and we can not tell you how sorry we are about letting those who bought tickets down. We were very much looking forward to play there and making it up to you will be our top priority.
Apart from that no major changes (but please keep in mind the earlier announced change of venue in Minneapolis to THE VARSITY THEATER). See the gigs list for all the details, including dates in Spain and Stockholm.
Oh, but if you're new to the Concrete world, we'd recommend clicking around on this virtual record cover to hear snippets of songs, watch our video, etc. Or, if you wanna get really creative, enter the world of In Colour, look for treasures, decorate your own room, have some magic mushrooms, etc. And if you're the sociable type we'd also recommend a visit to our forum and perhaps a visit to our MySpace.

I know this seems like a lot of work, but when we play out of town, we carry all of our gear from our cars into our hotel room. Either that or have someone in the band sleep in the van overnight in case there is a break in. Leaving equipment without proper supervision just isn't worth it.

i'm with Modrevolve
probably begs the question.. why rent a "trailer" if the gear just gets lifted anyways.
but (1) try to leave the gear with friends or (2) if you dont have friends to leave it with, make some!

why not put some tracking device inside the guitar? maybe we'll find the magic warehouse where all this stolen gear is going.

some ideas: why not park in front of a police station, hire a security guard, a bouncer from a club, sleep in the van, ask record companies or club playing at to do the hiring. finally -i'll put it out there now - ME -looking for a job to watch your gear. contact me at my blog. low cost and trustworthy.

So who hasn't had equipment stolen this year?
As for reasons the band didn't park in front of a police precinct, did you see the size of that bus? It's the Spruce Goose of tour buses.

Coolfer means it was a pretty big bus. ;-)

thanks for clearing that up, ;-)

I can't believe they canceled the Vancouver show, I'm not even going but I know that if a concert I was ever supposed to go to got canceled i would be soooo pissed off.

If only someone had stolen their gear before they went to the studio and recorded the record.

I bet their frontwoman REALLY hates New Yorkers now.
By sleeping in the van with one's band's gear, isn't one risking bodily harm by a very determined thief?

what about Sonic Youth? Didn't they get like all of their customized guitars stolen in like 1999, and they are now finally just starting to recover some of it?

dude... if it was my band our shit wouldnt have gotten stolen.. these guys are just being sloppy..

you need to get a proper lock on U-Hauls. Never trust the U-Haul locking mechanism itself.

hehehe spruce goose.
sorry... this is sad, but isn't it worth the money to shell out for a parking garage?
Posted by nora | May 16, 2006 4:27 PM
do parking lots allow buses?
