The Raconteurs | played Irving Plaza, live video, playing Tower Records, album stream, etc
"'This is very much a long-term project for me,' White said of The Raconteurs, who release their debut album 'Broken Boy Soldiers' on May 15." [NME]

The photos in this post are from The Raconteurs April 7th NYC show at Irving Plaza. I'm not a huge Brendan Benson fan, but I thought it was a quality rock show. The general crowd reaction after the show was mixed good and 'eh'. Decide for yourself - Amazon is streaming video from the show. The Modern Age has a review and pictures from the show. MTV is streaming the album.

On Thursday 5/18 (10PM) the band will play an "exclusive NYC performance" at Tower Records (4th & Broadway). "Come down to Tower 4th & Broadway beginning 9:00 AM on Tuesday 5/16, and get a wristband for this performance when you purchase the new Raconteurs CD Broken Boy Soldiers. One wristband per person limit. Space for this performance is limited."

You heard people say 'Eh' after this show?? I'm not sure what they were watching, but the show I saw was incredible from start to finish. Lots of energy, great singing, great solos, a Bowie cover, and a great crowd. I mean, it was Jack White at Irving Plaza. 'Eh'??? Thrashing about, slinging guitars, jumping to the keys, that falsetto howl, letting Brendan take lead vocals but still proving that he is the star of this band. In my opinion he proved why he will be looked back at as absolute rock God (if he isn't already).

I am still saying Eh about the show at Irving Plaza and my main reason is Brendan Benson. The songs he sings are just so blah. IMO Jack really needs to take control of this band. As much as Jack wants this to be a group effort, it is still Jack who people are coming to see. There were definetly some really cool parts to this show and I will continue to see them perform but the band seemed very stiff and Jack at times looked as if he was ready to just completely leave the band behind. This band so far definetly lacks the explosive anything can happen at any moment attitude that The Whitestripes have.
