ryan looks like a douchebag. do girls really find him attractive?

Posted by Anonymous | May 6, 2006 10:31 AM

i can't speak for all us ladies, but yuck. i don't get it.

Posted by kd | May 6, 2006 2:47 PM

i don't either.

Posted by Anonymous | May 6, 2006 3:48 PM

oh c'mon, super talented faux assholish famous performer with good hair? It doesn't even matter what he looks like, of course he is attractive to girls.

i have no idea who jessica joffe is, but she looks very pretty in that picture.

Ryan Adams is a douche bag who makes douchey music for douchey fans.

Case closed!

Posted by klaus | May 7, 2006 1:37 AM

Total douche. Shitty music for suckers.

Posted by mod_grrl | May 7, 2006 2:34 AM

dude cant accept that he did his best work when he was 18 years old.

Posted by sam | May 7, 2006 1:43 PM

Jesse Malin has far more talent than Ryan...and the Strokes were an embarrassment...the idiot lead singer forgetting lyrics to song, the sloppy guitar playing...

Posted by Heather | May 7, 2006 4:10 PM

If I remember something I read on Gawker correctly, Jessica Joffe is a socialite. Has he stopped dating Lindsay Lohan?

I like some of his stuff. A big "fuck you" to those of you who look down on me for doing so.

Posted by not a hipster | May 8, 2006 8:30 PM

assholes. the fucking lot of you

Posted by Anonymous | May 25, 2006 3:39 AM

With a two recognizable exceptions, Ryan Adams is about the worst song writer to ever pick up a guitar, a permanent marker, and a pizza box. I wish he would practice yoga, become extremely felxible, and shove his own head up his own ass. This way, his fans might be swayed to pull their heads out of their own asses for a moment and see how silly they all look.

PS - Just look at the picture . . the guy's wearing women's jeans! Guess he can't fill out a pair of man's jeans, huh?

you guys care way to much to be making comments like these, ironically. Who really cares what the guy wears or looks like or sounds like. You guys do, i suppose.

Posted by mark | June 16, 2006 12:24 PM

this just seems kinda funny to me: vegans telling other people to pull their heads out of there own asses.

Posted by Anonymous | August 4, 2006 11:58 AM

it's cute how hard you guys try to hate him.

Posted by stc | August 4, 2006 12:22 PM

There must be something about him, Jessica is a cutie.

Posted by Ryann E. | December 22, 2006 1:35 AM

I think anyone who dogs on RA's music is silly and hasn't actually listened to much that he's put out.

And he gets cute girls. What does that say, dummies?

I think Ryan is a sexy bean and a genius...a crazy genius.

I would do him.

Posted by Megan O. | January 24, 2007 2:11 AM

..genius is only a good thing if you use it in a good way…. r. has no discretion. whatsoever.

…he seems like an extremely insecure person who always needs to be dating a pretty girl and receiving more and more attention from the public at any cost to make him feel better about himself.... prob. b/c he has never had any idea how to have a normal relationship and treat other people, or how to live except when being watched by other people… how to just be contented within his own life.. read recently that he now attributes the mistakes of the past couple years to drugs and alcohol…but has yet to go beyond that and find out how the way that he acts affects everything.. after only a half a year of being sober claims he has had enough deep self-reflection time to put another 3 albums out.... and apparently has also had the time, (while going through this very troubling period) to regress to his jun. h.s. days when he said things like ‘laters,’ act like a complete inane idiot 24-7, and put out a ton of what everyone needs in these days of internet-garbage overload..some really cheap space junk for mass consumption...boy he must have been through a really hard time. (I think he missed his call in marketing…because that’s what this recent stuff is…and i have a sense of humor like anyone else but r. is just acting like a jerk..) ...never, even after he has done the worst, been through the worst, does he stop the endless self-promotion and the big ridiculous show that must go on which always seems to include his personal life.. and other people’s lives as well… from his comments, it seems that he thinks that his life is somehow better than other people’s out there who have normal lives and work everyday etc. who listen to music, pay attention to art, and say what they think about it.. and that he is ‘on the good side/the positive side’ because he plays guitar and writes music.. he feels that he can criticize other people’s lives through his music, treat other people’s lives like fiction, say what he wants about them and the world, and that that’s always a good thing, no matter how he goes about it….but no one else is allowed to say anything about what he does and if they do they are either cynical or jealous of him and should just not listen… first of all art isn’t just about putting it out there, it’s a two way street…it’s a form of communication….so if you put something out there, there is going to be a response …if you are confident enough abt. your work and know that it is being done with the right intentns., then I don’t think you feel the need to defend yourself all the time..also.. the way that it is created matters.. and life and art should have a peaceful not a destructive or antagonistic relationship… one (not the artist’s or anyone else’s) should be sacrificed for the other….r. keeps producing no matter what, no matter how, no matter who it hurts, no matter what he claims to be going through, because like he has said, it’s what he does and he doesn’t know what else to do.. seems like mindless, heartless compulsion to me…and now there is a novel too... if r. had any respect whatsoever for life – his and other people’s, and if he really had been through a hard time, lost people he cared about etc., he would probably be quiet for a little while (maybe even a very long while) and wouldn’t feel the need to draw endless attention to himself while he was getting over that time, preparing to say something about it…if you say you have come to these big realizations, etc where is the proof in your life…what you have discovered is apparent in your actions and your words (has what you have been through and what other people have been through only taught you to continue to act like an obnoxious egomaniac while you play mr. sensitive through your music and fiction).. if you can write beautifully but it has nothing to do with your life what does it matter… i guess it’s just writing... I guess it’s just what you do….you get up and that is what you do..

Posted by anonymous | February 17, 2007 8:47 PM

...response to comments posted recently here and on stereogum re r.a.

Posted by Anonymous | February 17, 2007 9:55 PM

anon 8:47 you sound like you must know r. personally. and i guess hes really hurt your feelings somehow. hey, dont worry about it. you're right, he's not as good as he thinks he is.

Posted by Anonymous | February 17, 2007 10:26 PM

thanks anon 10:26..i don't know ryan personally but he made himself a part of my life in a way that i did not choose.. long story.. i know that he can be extremely manipulative and cruel and that he tries to put on a million different faces for the public.. he thinks that he is writing about 'stories that matter to him' but a lot of the time what he really does is observe (to put it mildly..he is a total psycho)/write twisted versions of people's lives that he has never even met...funny that what he does to the people he says matter to him is actually use and hurt them and never consider the effect of his actions on their lives.... maybe he should learn to use his imagination a little more... or maybe he should stick to his own story for once.. but then again how interesting is it to write about talking about yourself all day, or about shopping for high heels to try to make yourself look as tall as your girlfriend.. (god bless her.. he is the most obnoxious human being on the face of the planet and looks like thelma from scooby doo) maybe i shouldn't be so mean.. but ryan has done more than anyone has any idea and never takes any reponsibility for his actions.. just moves on and manipulates some more.. then again i wouldn't want one thing from him, not even an apology considering the source.. i just thank god that i never met him...

Posted by Anonymous | February 19, 2007 4:07 PM

You've never met him so how can you judge him?? Eh Ryan Adams is an amazing talent and maybes just cos you don't get him doesn't mean others won't.
Back off the Ryan abuse-the bloke is a great singer who's songs mean a hell of a lot to lots of people!!!

Posted by Anonymous | March 18, 2007 8:14 PM

I don't know Ryan, but I would love to. I think he's an amazing, beautiful person who has produced some of the finest music that has enriched my life. He's an artist and a genius and his music is beautiful and brilliant. Historically, many significantly contributing artists have had troubled lives. Most geniuses are a little crazy, aren’t they? Look at him for his art and his contribution. Saying he’s insecure, I’d say it’s more like he doesn’t give a shit what people think of him, which is actually pretty refreshing. I can’t wait to see him play in Colorado in August and I can’t wait for his new album to come out in June, the two tracks I’ve heard are amazing. I want to see him live sooner than later, to make sure I get the chance.

You silly twats that get kicks out of paying out Ryan and his music need to get a life. The guy is an amazing tallent so get the fuck over whatever your jealous about...

I was unfortunate enough to see this 'Happy Chap' fall off a stool when he was singing in a bar in Seattle, Washington called "Hatties Hat" back in the late 90's just after Whiskeytown had split up.
He acted just like a spoiled little brat that had been given too many toys or too much ice cream.
I have seen some sad/bad shows in my life but that one really was the worst. He didn't even get up and try again, he just stumbled over to the bar where he got more drunk, as if he hadn't had enough already.People literally just walked out, as did I.

Posted by Susan Barry | July 4, 2007 11:28 AM

ryan adams is a self promoting corporate tool. and he is not deep, just fake. its all about the $$$$$ and the fame.

Posted by Anonymous | July 9, 2007 1:29 PM

Wow...hard to believe so many people would spend the time to say such negative things! I think it's all jealousy!! Ryan Adams is one of the most significant singer-songwriter-artists of his generation, f'ed up or not.

Posted by Angie | August 1, 2007 9:07 PM

anyone talkin this major shit on the Ryan Adams, also known as "GENIUS", is laaaame....and jealous to make things worse.

Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2007 11:18 PM

Mr Adams is now sober (no, I'm not. I love pot and booze). His life and musical career may just have been saved from meeting this girl. She sounds exceptionally smart and she's cute. Too bad the tabloids and the lot of you are so accustomed to reading and writing horrible things that sell...that's easy...trying being nice...that's harder. Sour people suck! The girl maybe changed his life. I saw him recently in Minneapolis in a theater of just 450 people. It was a beautiful show. His voice and presence have been restored. I've seen other shows that brought me to tears because he was my favorite performer/writer up until that point. I'm lucky enough to be seeing him again this month in Minneapolis. May everyone find an inspiration that opens their heart. And stop being so rude! Be nice. Life is short. That's not cliche. That's the truth. His talent is endless.

Jessica Joffe may be a socialite, but she's also a very talented writer.

Posted by S | October 25, 2007 3:24 PM

yeah.. right now she's busy (in bed) researching a novel about a 'depraved artist'..

Posted by Anon | November 2, 2007 1:04 PM

maybe now rolling stone can pick up it's stakes and move away.

It's pretty much the People magazine of the music scene

Posted by BeeLaster | November 2, 2007 1:11 PM

..guess they're good for someone like 'ryan darling' who actually invites the media into his living room to talk about who he is sleeping with and how many pills he did last yr.. (recovering from addiction is one thing.. underhandedly bragging about your habits is pretty gross...) while a lot of people try to minimize that kind of attention ra sadly seems to need the validation.. funny how the story came out right before the album.. and then he later claimed he was trying to help other suffering addicts (who might also benefit from socialite quack nurse therapy).. what a joke.
