I was just saying how I saw the Stills last time they were in town. What I didn't say was that I really loved the Mercury Lounge show. Maxwell's is about the same size as Mercury Lounge, and Rogue Wave seems like a band too popular to be opening. Tickets are on sale for a June 2nd Stills show at Maxwell's. (thx William)

Fantastic. I love the Stills new record too. Really beautiful. Great double bill! Yay Hoboken!

All the reviews of the mercury lounge show you linked to were pretty mixed, but mostly leaning on the bad side. It sounds like you enjoyed it however, and i definitely enjoyed them when i caught them on the west coast. Your review? Pictures?

Love the blog, great job always!!

the reviews of their shows i've heard about lately have been great. i think that first nyc show they did, they were still getting their new shit together. but i've heard from a bunch of people on the west coast that they're ruling now in a big big way. can't wait to see them again on the east coast, yo! the new record is very very well crafted.

i thought their mercury lounge show was great and definitely want to go to this. however, i have never been to maxwell's, so can someone please tell me if it will be hard to make the last PATH train back to the city if the show starts at 10?

PATH trains run all night.

thanks! i was confused because i saw 12:26 on the schedule but not the part that says it runs every half hour all night.

maxwell's = great, incredibly intimate venue

rogue wave doesn't suck, but they're not great live. they opened for nada surf a few months back and were disappointing -- did not live up to their recordings. I have one picture on my site (for the bloke who asked) from webster hall.

In my mind, Maxwell's is way smaller than Mercury Lounge. I would prefer to see almost any band there... except for the getting there and back part.

Bands play Maxwells despite its small size for a number of reasons - 1 - 80% band draw on tix sales (most venues are far below, or so i've been told) 2 - Maxwells feeds the bands (food kinda stinks) 3 - Maxwells gives the band 50/50 or skeetball tickets(for the Jersy folks)redeamable for free drinks 4 - Its a good warm up for the city 5 - Maxwells has good reputation with bands, so see it as pay back to a venue that might have given them a start 6 - Yo la Tengo may stop by and check your band out.

That's what I meant. Rogue Wave suck live! Their first album was ok, but the 2nd one sounds like Adult Contemporary sh*t!
