I can't belive Damone's acoustic version of Iron Maiden's "Wasted Years" didn't make the list. I forgot, it sucks. Seriously, for all the lists that VH1 puts it out it's hard to argue with the list they came up with, although I would have preferred "Paranoid" over "Iron Man"

Posted by RinjoNjori | May 4, 2006 2:23 PM

Agreed Iron Man is an odd choice. Paranoid's my first pick of Sabs songs

Posted by NB | May 4, 2006 4:59 PM

By my definition of metal, only six of those songs should count. I would say GNR, Motorhead, AC/DC or Kiss are not metal bands.

(It could be argued that Kiss has over the years become a metal band, but in the '70s, when "Detroit Rock City" came out, they were defintely not a metal band. Maybe "God of Thunder" was a metal song. That's about it. By the time Lick It Up was out, yeah, you could say they were metal.)

Posted by Coolfer | May 4, 2006 7:18 PM

I fucking hate "Crazy Train."

Hate!

Posted by Me. | May 5, 2006 1:02 AM

Do I stand alone in saying the "Mr. Crowley" just rocks harder than "Crazy Train"? Maybe it's because it wasn't radioed to death.
But seriously! "Miiisster Crrrroooowwley BA DA DUH What have they done in your head!"
And no Pantera?

Posted by Ando | May 5, 2006 5:25 PM

crazy train kicks ass and btw iron man created metal so dont be fucking around with it

Posted by ben | May 12, 2006 7:25 AM

pantera sucs other than that the list kicks ass

Posted by birch | May 14, 2006 8:14 PM

Come on! It's good to see Slayer and Motorhead on here, but Welcome to the Jungle??? Since when is that metal. Also two of the weakest songs by Priest and AC/DC are in the top 10. If you want commercially popular JP and AC/DC songs then go with Hell Bent for Leather and Highway to Hell. Or let's dig deeper and list Tyrant and Sin City!

Posted by Mike | May 19, 2006 2:18 PM

now i cannot argue with the list its pretty good although id like to see living after midnight instead of breakin the law(both by judas priest)
but The number of the beast is a good song but way over rated. im a huge iron maiden fan and i think some other song should be there like the trooper or can i play with madness somthing with more of a ring and even dare i say bring me your daughter to the slaughter should of been on this list?

Posted by Clark | May 20, 2006 2:28 PM

well i can kinda understand way there r normal rock song cuz metal is part of rock but they arnt really metal, still i love the almost all of thesongs anyways so who cares wut order there in

Posted by zac | May 21, 2006 9:39 PM

Not a bad list, though I agree with whoever said Pantera shoulda been on it, probably in the GNR slot. I like most of the artists on there. GNR is great, but not really my idea of metal. As far as the individual songs go, each of those bands have better picks, but hey that all probably gets down to radio play. "You've got another thing comin'" isn't my favorite Priest song, but it *was* the first song I heard from them. For AC/DC they should have left Brian Johnson alone and gone with something from Bon Scott. Maybe TNT or Sin City?

Posted by brettman | May 22, 2006 11:03 AM

It's nice to see that KISS got the respect they deserve! God of Thunder by KISS deserves to be there as well!

Posted by Nino | May 24, 2006 4:48 AM

Though most metal fans (like me) often find the hits made by most groups are not their best songs, you can take a song's popularity into account when making such a list. Back in Black is the song that made me a metalhead in 1980 because of radioplay.

Posted by Zaphod | May 28, 2006 3:05 PM

i think "enter sandman" is the song that charaecterizes metallica.

Posted by shakti | June 5, 2006 9:21 AM

Bat Country or Unholy Confessions by Avenged Sevenfold and Enter Sandman by Metallica

Posted by Anonymous | June 22, 2006 4:45 PM

dont be dissin' Pantera. good fucking band. "this love" is one of the finest metal songs you'll ever hear.

Posted by george | June 23, 2006 2:46 AM

fantastic choice in iron man for number 1..not only for the song for what it started.
pantera DEFINETLY should have been atleast in the top 10...the best metal band of the 90's.
gunners at no.2!?!? not in a metal countdown my friends.
im happy they didn't put sandman in place of puppets because i would have stopped watching right there, sandman is a good song..but not that good.
motorhead...go lemmy!!!
and im glad they put slayer in there...one of my favourite songs of all time..when that guitar kicks in at the start you know your in for a ride :D

Posted by ben | June 24, 2006 4:13 AM

What makes the definition of metal?? Godsmack - Greed, Stone Temple Pilotsex - Type Thing, Tool - Sober. How can you leave any of these songs out?

Posted by Anonymous | June 28, 2006 11:02 PM

other then crazy trian and judus priest every things seems right im glad slayer is on there though little angry that manson didnt make it.

Posted by meshel | July 5, 2006 7:13 AM

other then crazy trian and judus priest every things seems right im glad slayer is on there though little angry that manson didnt make it.

Posted by meshal | July 5, 2006 7:22 AM

They are all good songs, but some are more a few are definitely more Hard rock than metal, and nearly all of them they have picked their probably most universally well knopwn song, rather than neccesarily their best

Posted by sam | July 9, 2006 1:56 PM

"Raining Blood" should have been #1, "Puppets" should have been below "Aces High," which should have been on there instead of "Number of the Beast." But then again, this is VH1, and nobody's expecting them to get their metal right. I mean, Run to the Hills" was in the bottom half, below a Korn song, for god's sake! At least they didn't put "Enter Sandman" at the top (it was #22, I think).

Posted by some guy | July 10, 2006 2:37 PM

iron man deserves to be # 1 (Sharon!!!!!!!!!!)

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2006 5:03 PM

What about this? What about that? Wha, wha, wha. Since when is VH1 an authority on metal?

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2006 5:19 PM

Man, this list actually kinda sucks. But before I say more, I think it's important to point out that 10 songs just isn't enough to define metal (btw I know there's more to the list, I just haven't seen it). That said, Metallica is god of all metalness, with only Sabbath's best song coming before them. If it were my list, Puppets would be number one, Iron Man 2, Angel of Death 3, Hallowed Be Thy Name 4... etc. Form there it wouldn't be as big of a deal, I'd throw in a Priest song, some Pantera, MAYBE AC/DC (awesome just not entirely metal), and I suppose Motorhead's pretty important... Metallica rules all, however. The big question for me is that since this is the best metal song list, is it more important to choose the metal song that is truly the greatest, or the most influential song to the metal genre?

Posted by sirmetal | July 14, 2006 10:53 AM

1. Master of Puppets Metallica
2. Iron Man Black Sabbath
3. Number of the Beast Iron Maiden
4. Symphony of Destruction Megadeth
5. Cowboys from Hell Pantera
6. Raining Blood Slayer
7. Youve Got Another Thing Coming Judas Priest
8. Greed Godsmack
9. Du Hast Rammstein
10. Mother Danzig

This is fucking metal we're talking about right? I mean half the shit on that first list isnt even metal. And its the greatest songs, not the best. Master of Puppets isnt metallica's best song, but easily the greatest. Same with Greed from Godsmack. You take a combo of the best song, most popular, and greatest influence. Thats what this list is based on

Posted by aj | July 15, 2006 2:36 PM

Even though I like AC/DC a lot I don't think its a metal band. Even though they are a mixture of Sabbath n Zep.And i think KISS is dumb. And how the hell did Hallowed Be Thy Name( by Maiden) not make it!!?? There should also b Megadeth's Symphony of Destruction. And there is no way JP is better than Maiden. Motorhead shouldn't be there either. Instead it should be Megadeth's Symphony of Destruction.

Posted by IronMaiden/Sabbath/Priest | July 16, 2006 5:58 AM

My list is-

1.Hallowed Be Thy Name-Iron Maiden
2.Master of Puppets-Metallica
3.Iron Man-Black Sabbath
4.The Number of the Beast-Iron Maiden
5.Symphony of Destruction-Megadeth
6.You Got Another Thing Comin'-Judas Priest
7.Paranoid-Black Sabbath
8.Raining Blood-Slayer
9.The Trooper-Iron Maiden
10.Lving After Midnight-Judas Priest

Posted by IronMaiden/Sabbath/Priest | July 16, 2006 6:15 AM

Now here is a real list of best metal songs!!!
Unleashed - Shadows In The Deep
Death - Pull The Plug
Obituary - Til' Death
Napalm Death - Suffer The Children
Sepultura - Beneath The Remains
Entombed - Stranger Aeions
Deicide - Dead By Dawn
Malevolent Creation - Decadence Within
Terrorizer - Dead Shall Rise
Morbid Angel - Chapel Of Ghouls

Posted by Al Turner | July 16, 2006 4:24 PM

Wait a second...I was just rereading this thread and did someone actually say Avenged Sevenfold should have made the list? That is comedy. Nicely played. Oh...wait...you were serious? And the line about "Enter Sandman" being the song that best epitomizes Metallica. Also very funny. I wish I could believe these things were written with the requisite sarcasm that their idiocy demands. But I fear not. And Godsmack godsucks.

Posted by Anonymous | July 16, 2006 10:15 PM

where's the phamtom od the opera of iron maiden holy crap

Posted by aeje | July 18, 2006 6:11 PM

wat the hell? this list has some important bands on there i agree with such as slayer, iron maiden, priest, metallica and i guess motorhead was pretty important 2 but acdc and kiss? they're not metal mayb acdc has some heavier songs but still they're way to overated. i was disapointed not 2 see megadeth or pantera. megadeth's "peace sells" or "99 ways to die" and pantera's "walk" are definetely some great songs.

Posted by metal maniac | July 18, 2006 11:30 PM

Has everyone forgotten MetallicA's greatness?
I'm not a fanatic, I just like music in general, and, you can be sure, MetallicA is the f**king best.
Have you heard "One"? "To Live is to Die"? "Fade to Black"? "The Outlaw Torn"?
Please, don't listen to these songs, hear them! They're amazing!
Trust me, they are.

Posted by de-raped | July 29, 2006 11:47 PM

Well to be jonesy i think most people are right surly ,egadeath and panera should be on there onstead of all 10 'ultimatly famous songs'. Bit personally im more of a rob/white zombie fan regardless wheather they should be in the top 10 just change it for me :) but the song im suprised isnt in the top 10 is 5 minutes alone since its metal through and through and i think its one of my fav songs as well!

Metallica is THE God of metal!. Panty Slay, and Maiden are also awesome. Megadeth is good except their lyrics are SO F***Cked up! AC/DC is more like classic rock, except B Scotts old stuff is pretty close to metal. GNR has like only 10 good songs and the rest is crappy ballads. Priest is another good band and Zombie is also not as bad as the rest of th e sh***t. Throw in some death metal bands.

Posted by Anonymous | August 17, 2006 8:32 PM

for god sakes who the f==ck dares to mention gay ass bands like "avanged sevenforld", "Godsmack"? vh1 should not count nu-metal songs, they are like their own definition, a joke.
"enter sadman" defines metallica?....yeah if you mean the song that stands for corporate sell out...i guess you are right....
poor choice for the songs, i would definetly put iron man as #1 too, but gnr, KISS or ac/dc??? give me a break, they are not metal.....

my choice..

1.iron man...black sabbath
2.the trooper..iron maiden
3.raining blood..slayer
2.Creeping Death..Metallica

Posted by zollimtsenad | August 19, 2006 11:39 PM

well ok heres my 2 cents on the whole thing. There is no way in hell that Avenged or Manson or any of those guys deserves to even be thought about in this list. So jsut erase that from that from your mind. Heres how it goes for me...

1. Iron Man
2. Raining Blood
3. HELLS BELLS!!! (cmon who can forget bout that?)
4. Sign of the beast
5. RIDE THE LIGHTNING
6. Mr Crowley
7. Cowboys From Hell
8. Symphony of destruction

10. Crazy Train

How can u say crazy train sux? or pantera sux? screw that. and how can u guys forget about hells bells? with its famous line, "If gods on the left, then im sticking to the right" i know ACDC not metal, but still, that song is one of best songs ever written

Posted by bill | August 27, 2006 1:52 PM

Enter Sandman was the beginning of the end for Metallica. At that time, I still had no idea how disgusted I would eventually become with them. Seeing Metallica now is like seeing your own dad suck a cock. Painful...

Posted by Anonymous | August 27, 2006 2:06 PM

to the one who mentioned Avenged Sevenfold- did you already cut your balls off or are you just thinking about it?

how can u put metallica over black sabbath????

Posted by afasfaf | September 14, 2006 8:07 PM

Most true metal fans agree that Hallowed be thy name by iron Maiden and Black Sabbath's war Pigs, are the greatest of all metal ongs(aS well as the genre's most influential) The main, glaring, problem of the list is not just biased, but the fact that the list is basically a collection of Anthems and not really great classics metal.....numerous bands featured, for one, are not heavy metal(Deep Purple,Alice Cooper, acDc)....they are hard rock.
No epics or emotionally driven metal(in other words meaningful) metal make the cut, including such masterpieces as Judas Priest's Beyond the Realms of Death and Victim of Changes(both top 10 classics) Iron Maiden's Rime of the Ancient MaRINER, Black Sabbath's NIB and Heaven and hell, and even Metallica's Fade to Black.
And how can a song like "Walk" even compare to the haunting beauty of Cemetary Gates, often called Pantera's masterpiece? Megadeth, a top 10 metal act, does not even get there finest track, the incomparable, Holy Wars-the punishment due, which effectively usurped Metallica's throne of Metal stardom, after the good, but sadly too commercial, Metallica in 1991.
And how bout' all the other classic anthems and "forgotten" musts of metal history?
Diamond Head's Am I evil?, Judas Priest's classics of the 70s, more sabbath, Maiden....any Queensryche? No Shout at the devil? Angel of death by Slayer? This list was completely incompetant and showed a complete lack of love or understanding of the genre from a real rock fan's POV. More reccomended is the almost definitive list of top 100 metal songs, as compiled by metal experts at digital-dreamdoor.com.
Metal heads should seek there solace there.

Posted by Jim | September 17, 2006 2:42 PM

Personally I thought "Rock You Like A Hurricane" should have been higher on this list (it was like #20 something out of Vh1's entire list). It's probably one of the greatest metal anthems of all time, and a classic from the Scorps. There were alot of other songs I would have liked to see on the list, and some of I simply hoped would rank higher (Metal Health, and Balls to the Wall inpreticular)

Posted by Warstar | September 25, 2006 8:31 PM

My list:
1.Master of Puppets (Metallica)
2.One(Metallica)
3.Welcome to the jungle (Guns'n'Roses)
4.Creeping Death (Metallica)
5.Battery (Metallica)
6.Cowboys from Hell (Pantera)
7.Back in black (AC/DC)
8.Ozzy Osbourne (Crazy Train)
9.BYOB (System of a down)
10.Iron Man (Black Sabbath)

The bands listed made the best Metal riffs ever.
These songs are just some of many that bands like Metallica, AC/DC and Guns'n'Roses produced.

Posted by Matt | October 3, 2006 10:29 PM

funny shit there!
never thought of motorhead, kiss and ac/dc as a metal band neither did gnr ever been metal.
these guys are hard rock.

Lemme Analyze these
01. BLACK SABBATH - "Iron Man" (1971) - Paranoid was a huger hit
02. GUNS N' ROSES - "Welcome to the Jungle" (1987)
- really dont know if u call this track 'metal'
03. METALLICA - "Master of Puppets" (1986)
- great song but there are songs called Battery and Welcome Home (Sanitarium) in the same album which is much superior!!
04. AC/DC - "Back in Black" (1980) - if u say so!
05. JUDAS PRIEST - "You've Got Another Thing Coming" (1982) - i love this song
06. KISS - 'Detroit Rock City" (1976) - great rock song
07. IRON MAIDEN - "The Number of the Beast" (1982) - run to the hills, hallowed by thy name are superior
08. SLAYER - 'Raining Blood" (1986)
extremely deserved!!!!
09. OZZY OSBOURNE - "Crazy Train" (1980)
great song, certainly not the greatest of ozzy's work.
10. MOTÖRHEAD - "Ace Of Spades" (1980)
great rock song!!

Posted by BK | October 8, 2006 5:01 AM

I Like ac/dc but i think that METALLICAS Blackened should be on there but gnr on there no

Posted by Jordan | October 17, 2006 10:26 PM

how come Metallica better than Megadeth, Iron Maiden and Black Sabbath? The list needs improvement. Hope to see a better list one day. hehe. And if you consider Guns and Rose's - welcome to the jungle as a metal song, What about Led Zepellin's - Stairway to Heaven. Its got the worlds best solo and is a hell of a song, both lyrics and music.

Posted by d3mone | October 18, 2006 1:27 PM

i really believe dat megadeth should be given a spot in the top ten list of greatest metal acts ever...rust in peace and peace sells were truely masterpieces...gnr is not a metal band...hallowed be thy name is a better choice for maiden....pantera agan not in the list...dey deserve to b on the list as much as megadeth....slayer shud b rated higher dan metallica....i personally wud lov to include korn coz they started the nu-metal genre and they were different as compared to other metal bands.....

my list:

black sabbath-paranoid

First of all Iron Maiden and sabbeth are way better than metallica, specily now that tallica has sold out. And the choices on the list are pretty shitty. Also Van Halen should be on the list, maybe not very metal but he definitly deserves to be there for his influence on the genre, also listen to his It's About Time and tell me that its not metal.

Top 10

1. Hallowed be thy name-Iron Maiden
2. Beyond the Realms of Death-Judas Priest
3. Sign of the Southern Cross- Black Sabbeth
4. Holy Diver-Dio
5. Number of the Beast-Iron Maiden
6. Eruption-Van Halen
7. Painkiller-Judas Priest
8. Master of Puppets-Metallica
9. Ace of Spades-Motorhead
10. Lord of Light-Iron Maiden

Posted by Mr Epic | December 17, 2006 6:12 AM

1 Black Sabbath - Iron Man - Simply genesis of metal
2 Metallica - Master of Puppets - Truly masterpiece. Personally I would choose Creeping Death but this song is more important
3 Judas Priest - Beyond the Realms of Death - My choice is The Sentinel
4 Iron Maiden - Run to the Hills - Icon , Hallowed be Thy Name is better but... you know what I mean.
5 Slayer - Angel of Death - American's best thrash band's best song
6 Motorhead - Ace of Spades - It's just great.
7 Mercyful Fate - The Oath - I had to put on this slot some black metal
8 Pantera - Cowboys from Hell
9 Kiss - Detroit Rock City
10 Megadeth - Symphony of Destruction

Sorry for my english

this list is shit...
how can some1 miss out on pantera and Amon Amarth

Posted by Samrat | December 21, 2006 7:38 AM

Being a Hard Rock fan I love the list. I worship AC/DC (they are the best) and GnR are my personal favorite.

But I can see how you disagree because they're not really metal. I love Judas priest, Metallic and of course Black Sabbath and Ozzy.

Posted by Overkill0001 | December 22, 2006 10:11 PM

Raining blood should top the list, Slayer epitomise Metal!...and the top 10 needed some Pantera, Megadeth, Zeppelin...

Posted by Chet | December 25, 2006 11:21 PM

If you listen to metal, then it must be the riffs and complexity of the music, the talent of the musicians is what I look for, e.g a band like Metallica.

There is nowhere in this fucking universe where you can find a song like Master of Puppets, maybe there are a thousands worlds out there that plays and listen to metal music but to create a song like MOP it's heaven sent. No other song comes close.

Other songs that should be on the list are:
Blackened - METALLICA
Highway Star - DEEP PURPLE
Nemesis - ARCH ENEMY - a monster song
Everytime I Die - CHILDREN OF BODOM
Mourning Palace - DIMMU BORGIR - very atmospheric song
Pure Evil - ICED EARTH
White Noise/Black Silence - Dark Tranquillity

Alright i agree that black sabbath deserves a spot but iron man as #1????
maybe as 4 or 5.
And why the fuck isn't Enter Sandman on there really?
and anyone who says enter sandman sucks is a fucking gay son of a fat bitch of a pig!!!!!

and i agree that pantera should be on there somewhere cause they're pry #2 right after Metallica for greatest metal band of all time.

I'm from Indonesia and a huge fan of Metallica, Megadeth, JP, Sabbath, Deep Purple, Kiss, and many other (Rock or Metal genres).

I think the list is quite reasonable except that GNR is not a metal band at all (from any perspectives). Also I get curious as Megadeth (and Pantera?) are not rated here. Last time Mustaine performed in Indonesia two years ago, they did very well.

Posted by Hendri Marseli | January 4, 2007 2:09 AM

I dunno about u guys, but creeping death should be somewhere,i believe it came even after enter sandman!!!

GNR suck!

the elders like priest, metallica, and sabbath are deserving of their top spots, but what about black label and relative newbies like unearth, trivium, and mastodon. these bands all have very talented members as well as screaming guitars. pantera also should have made the top ten. dimebag was probably one of the best songwriters in metal during the nineties. im not saying they all should have been in the top ten but at least recognized. after all who did ozzy chose to lead after randy?

To all those who say that Pantera suck......I think you are in the wrong forum!!! If you are a metal head...of any age or era even, you CANNOT say they suck....maybe you dont like them...but NEVER that they suck. They are one of the greatest metal bands and no one can say anything against that....unless that is someone who NEVER heard them or only heard the stuff you get on tv and is judging them by that....or wait is it cause they dont wear gay make up, do fancy triple summer saults with their guitars and dont wear jeans that are so thight that you would guess their balls are stuck in the throaths to fit! I'm being nice so I wont mention bleached back combing and mullets!!!!!!

Pantera are responsable for a huge change in Metal, a movement that before them was dying and bored to death by the usual sound.

Posted by leli | January 22, 2007 10:41 AM

I've read from top to bottom and I can admit that Hallowed be thy name has been mentioned several times in the first position and it's damn true..Hallowed be thy name got to be the best metal song ever..

Posted by Benjamin Breeg | February 12, 2007 1:44 AM

What the hell is with the long list of bands, metallica takes up half of it, there are alot of metal songs that arn't even on there. As for the VH1 list, four of the bands are not metal. ACDC is hard rock and I dont care for GNR. Ozzy was considered metal with Black Sabbath not when he went solo. KISS is metal maybe for God Of Thunder but other than that they are also hard rock. I am pleased though with the other six bands on the list

Posted by kyle | February 14, 2007 2:36 PM

ac/dc is one of the best bands out there along with the top 10 list. it can't get any better. people worship metallica but without ac/dc and black sabbath opening the doors to metal you can just forget it

Posted by get over it | February 14, 2007 4:14 PM

I agree with the ppl saying ac/dc, Kiss and gNr shouldnt be up there. These are hard rock bands, and do not hold a candle to any of the other metal bands up there. In my opinion, Raining blood should be higher ranked. Also paranoid should be on it. If there was an "extreme" or "Thrash" metal list however, i would be outraged if raining blood, along with angel of death did not top the list. Slayer are the godfathers of extreme metal and after 29 years no one holds a candle to them still

Posted by SlayerFan | February 24, 2007 7:17 PM

guns n' roses is famous for SLIZZY METAL!!!! notice the noun in the statment. they saved metal wit welcome to thejungle, it was almost dead, and it was HUGE again. them not being metal is like saying pearl jam and nirvana arent any sort of grunge. my list is

1. "ironman"- black Sabbath
2. "welcome to the jungle"- guns n' roses
3. "dirty deeds done dirt cheap"-ac/dc
4. "ultimate sacrifice"-slayer
5. " hallowed be thy name"- iron maiden
6.' paradise city"-guns n'roses
7. " master of puppets"- metallica
8. ' crazy train" ozzy osbourne
9. " the red and the black"- blue oyster cult
10. " cum on feel the noize'-slade

and congratultions to all 7-14 year olds thathave multiple songs by metallica up there. one of the greatest bands of all time, but youprbably know only those songsat this point.

Mercyful Fate- Satan's Fall
Motorhead- Overkil
Ozzy and Randy Rhoads- Suicide Solution
(there are so many cool fucking songs that i just have to pick a small portion of them)

Lol....there are only 10 songs...and people have given suggestions and taken offence to about 30 bands not being in the top10....ha ha. Are you all ****ing retards??? A top 10 list cannot contain more than 10 bands!!! Or have you forgotten how to count???VH1 had to make a list and they did...and it's not so bad, yes, AC/DC and GnR and KISS are not "true metal" as all the pseudo metallers would say. LOL...who gives you the right to define a genre anyway.....do you have a definition of metal?? If anybody has please tell me..please oh please. I agree with 50% of the top 10. I wouldnt include Motorhead,KISS,AC/DC,JP and Ozzy in the top 10. Iron Man wouldn;t have been there either other than the fact that it was the first 'metal song'. I would have had Paradise City rather than WTTJ for GnR,for Slayer-Angel Of Death, for Iron Maiden-Hallowed Be Thy Name. MOP is #1 and Holy Wars comes right after it at #2. But good list nonetheless.

Posted by blakdeth | April 13, 2007 4:01 AM

Before you go saying "Oh, they should've left Brian Johnson AC/DC era out and put Bon Scott in there" maybe you should look at the whole list. VH1 did the top 40 metal songs, not the top ten. Overall, I think VH1 did do a good job on the list. They tried to please everyone, so don't go sayin' "That's not metal!" because everybody has a different idea of what metal is and what certain metal bands are, etc. Anyway, the list is really:

1. BLACK SABBATH - "Iron Man"
2. GUNS N' ROSES - "Welcome To The Jungle"
3. METALLICA - "Master Of Puppets"
4. AC/DC - "Back In Black"
5. JUDAS PRIEST - "You've Got Another Thing Comin'"
6. KISS - "Detriot Rock City"
7. IRON MAIDEN - "The Number Of The Beast"
8. SLAYER - "Raining Blood"
9. OZZY OSBOURNE - "Crazy Train"
10. MOTOHEAD - "Ace Of Spades"
11. MEGADETH - "Peace Sells"
12. ANTHRAX & PUBLIC ENEMY - "Bring The Noize"
13. DIO - "Rainbow In The Dark"
14. SYSTEM OF A DOWN - "Toxicity"
15. RASE AGAINST THE MACHINE - "Bulls On Parade"
16. PANTERA - "Walk"
17. MOTLEY CRUE - "Live Wire"
18. SKID ROW - "Slave To The Grind"
19. ALICE IN CHAINS - "Man In The Box"
20. TWISTED SISTER - "I Wanna Rock"

Just so Were all on the same page every hitting on guns n roses their not my faverite band trust me but they did save metal in the late 80's. It was going to the Hair Bands and Glam Rock so thats why GNR are on that list.

Hey guys , what do you think about manowar-battle hymns ?

I Think it's a good top 100. There's just something i don't understand: On every single chart Guns 'N Roses beats Metallica with one point? How can that be?

Welcome To The Jungle Beats Master Of Puppets!

Paradise City Beats Enter Sandman!

on the guitarworld magazine's top 100 guitar solos, Slash's solo in November Rain beats Kirk Hammett's solo in One! Again with one point.

It's Not that i Don't Like the Guns, but i think it's weird that they always Beats Metallica with one single point!

I also think that AC/DC - Dirty deeds should be replaced by Highway To Hell, and then Highway To Hell should switch places with Back In Black.

Although It's a good top 100.

1. Black Sabbath - Iron Man
2. Metallica - Enter Sandman
3. Slayer - Raining Blood
4. Iron Maiden - The Number Of The Beast
5. Pantera - I'm Broken
6. AC/DC - Highway To Hell
7. Judas Priest - Breaking The Law
8. Guns N' Roses - Welcome To The Jungle
9. Megadeth - Symphony of Destruction
10. Mototrhead - Ace Of Spades

GNR isn't metal, but WTTJ is quite heavy so i think it deserves to be in the top ten , but not after Metallica or Slayer

No Pantera in the top ten c'mon Cowboys From Hell,I'm Broken,Walk Are fu**in Great.
One should be there

Youve got another thing coming is pretty good but
breakin the law in more metal and better

Guns N' Roses is sleaze metal. But i think it's more like hard rock, and who is the jackass that said Mötorhead aint metal!!! what a jackass

It's obvious from checking out VH1's top 40 metal songs that they lump in hard rock (glam metal, the "hair" bands)as well, as Skid Row and Motley Crue are on the list. Also, the title of the list should be, "Top 10 Most Popular Metal/Hard Rock Songs," because we all know that God of Thunder is way more metal than Detroit Rock City. And in a perfect world Badlands would be on the list (High Wire anybody).
