That stupid reality show was tragic. The guy they were filming had a bad haircut, was wearing a shlumpy suit and carrying a small green backpack. He either was a dork, or was trying to be an ironic hipster and failing miserably.
One of the proudction assistants asked one of the door guys "Where's the nearest place to get food around here?" He told her to go to Spring Street, and she asked "How far is that?" It took a lot of strength not to scream "Go back to LA."

And New Yorkers wonder why they aren't the world's most beloved of creatures.

I don't know about you, but that show at the Bowery was boring. Too much reverb on the vocals, too jam-bandy, and an "ah shucks, you guys are great, I love you New York, ah shucks!" was kinda old when it began...........

I disagree. I thought the show was great. I don't think his happiness to be in NY was contrived at all. It's a young band playing their first sold-out gig at the Bowery Ballroom, how can you fault him for being psyched and appreciative? The reverb on vocals is part of their sound, same as on the record. "Too jam-bandy"?? I don't think any of the songs lasted more than 5 minutes and there were no segues. Maybe I'm missing your point.

the show was terrible. anyone else notice that half the crowd (from the middle on back) wasnt even watching them but talking amongst themselves?) what a boring band.
If someone unfamiliar with the city makes you want to scream, you have serious issues and might want to ge tthem checked out.

I saw them at Maxwell's Saturday and I thought they were good considering their inexperience. There was some brutal honesty that took away from the show ("our encore f'in sucks"), but I think the energy and emotion was all very real.
We had the same problem of talking fans in Maxwell's (even more annoying considering the size of the place), but I hardly think that's the BoH's fault. I blame it on the hype surrounding Everything All the Time and rude fans.

I was up front for Bowery and thought it was amazing. Everyone that I spoke with that was further back had a completely differing opinion though, so it was by no means unanimous.
I also went to Warsaw last night and the reverb was more in check [especially after someone yelled out a request for less].

they fucking sucked at the bowery.
so ridiculously boring :\
they really are like a My Morning Jacket cover band. Don't waste any time on these guys.

I too thought the show at the bowery was pretty lame.

did the shit you people ate yet not kill you?

I thought they were excellent at Maxwell's. I have the story about the ruckus in my write-up.
If I was at Bowery and saw the RS TV crew, I would have thrown things at them and kept on leaping into the shot.

i thought the bowery show was pretty good. not going to rate it on a scale of 1-10 or anything but i'd give it maybe a 6.5. the reverb was just silly at times and the 'new' songs they played weren't so great but the songs i expected to rock from their album came across very well. though, like Jerry i was rather close to the stage for whatever that's worth.

Maxwell's sucked, period.

but you DID rate it on a scale of 1-10, !?!?!?!?
as for me. i wasn't there. i didn't like the album, so no point in me being there and talking in the back like all the other rude folks

went to the warsaw show - they seemed genuinely blown away that they'd managed to fill a venue in brooklyn on a sunday night. i thought it was a solid set, "great salt lake" in particular sounded great.
they also covered hall & oates "you make my dreams" for a little yacht rock in the encore. brilliant.

Was at the Warsaw show. Good crowd, good sound. I agree that they did have a little too much "aw shucks" dorkiness/nervousness in them, but whatever. Thought the show was good but didn't love it...someone nailed it- there was something boring them. I did love the choice to cover Hall and Oates (love that song!) but felt there was an opportunity missed- he has the pipes to belt out that song properly (you make-a my DREEEEEAMS come true!), but instead chose a slowed-down chug-a-chug version.

The show at Warsaw was great, the opening song Monsters came across great and they really knew how to turn up the volume and rock some of their songs, you could tell the guys really enjoyed playing

I saw the Maxwell's show and I thought it was a damn good rock show. Ben's songs have HUGE heart and are very earnest, so his "aw shucks" demeanor and direct eye contact really sold them even more for me. I dug Mt. Egypt, too, but that guy really did apologize waaay too much for each fumbled chord or lyric and drunken *hiccup*. I wouldn't have neccesarilly noticed if hadn't kept bringing it up.

I was at the front at Warsaw last night and thought it was a good show.

I was at the Maxwell's show and loved it. They were laid back, the sound was big, and the songs were all awesome. There was a slight reverb problem, and some rather strange, annoying people in the audience (are these the people that buy tickets to shows months in advance??), but in all it ranks as one of the years highlight's.

I was at the Warsaw show and I thought they were great. They are of course still a new band and I think this is like their first real tour and to get such a reception is huge. But they are awesome dudes and I think the band will only get better over time.
Mt. Egypt is the best and only gets better.

I was at the Bowery show. I thought the first 2 songs sounded awesome, reverb and all. it was the first time I ever even head the band of horses. I am just glad that we can have a lot of fun people go to shows of bands we dont really know and get drunk and sometimes make out. really well done guys. but who let mtv in?

waas at bowery friday night, and sure the show was a bit rough around the edges in spots, but that's to be expected given their relative lack of experience. i thought they still put on a really good show; the hall & oates cover and "the funeral" were great, plus two versions of "wicked gil." pics and review at my site...

They were OK. Not that I've heard much of it, but I get the feeling the album is better than the live show. Basically BoH is MMJ if MMJ wasn't such a good live band. Now if MMJ could make an album that's better than its live show...

this band should've just streamed these shows live on this site, since everyone who went to them is already here

I was at the Bowery show and loved it. I thought their energy was great, they really seemed into it and I didn't much notice the high-reverb. I was up front and maybe it wasn't as noticeable. I was trying to get tickets for the Warsaw show but couldn't get through.

Hey, went to show at Bowery show last week. I first heard BOH with Iron and Wine last year in Providence, RI and fell in love with them. I was so excited to go to the NY show, but left with disgust when they did the Hall and Oats song. What was that? Bowery was not the BOH I adore! Too loud, to fidgity (high on NY or something else?), too everything...BOH is more mellow, more hometown, more down-to-earth. I will try one more show with hopes that they will redeem themselves. If not, I will have to stick with the CD.

I just noticed they're gonna be on Letterman on friday. Does anyone know if there are gonna be any last minute shows while they're in town?

wow...some very over critical people here...i thought the show at the bowery was incredible. one of the best live shows ive seen in awhile...what people arent understanding is that that reverb on the vocals is band of horses, and it is such a difficult effect to perfect so you can understand why he was so grateful for the sound being that good. if you would have seen them in philly the night before you would have noticed it was like listening to a completely different band because the sound techs were terrible. thats why ben was so grateful. btw...give them a break there a new band who has a shitload to offer...two negative things about the show...where the hell was st. augustine??? and mt. egypt was terrible. that guy was the most annoying act i have ever seen. i have never been more depressed and tired after a set than after listening to mt. egypt....get a better opening act
