For those that don't know, the Stone Pony only hold about 750 people, though to me the place seems smaller than the Bowery Ballroom. It's not the greatest venue out there, and is in what almost seems like an abandoned ghost town.

I guess this is Bloc Party's way of throwing a small club show in New York, without having the riduclously high scalped tickets prices than that such a show would surely create. More bands should try this.

It's an eleven dollar train ride (one way), though it's a lot easier to get there by car.

yeah mew is opening. it's on the stone pony website. and at $25, it's only three dollars more than the hiro ballroom show.

I left NYC for Asbury Park becuase it does in fact not suck, but I will say that the emo kids do keep us stocked in "asymetrical haircuts". But bless them anyway.

Asbury is not to be fooled with. The walk from the train station is down right dangerous. Muggings and roving groups of thugs is the norm. I would be sure to travel in a group and drive there. The beach and northeast section of the town are of.

Anyone who makes the trip, don't pass up checking out the small town of Ocean Grove. Its the next town south of Asbury and a world away. To keep the Asbury scum out there is only a few roads in.

i second the asbury lanes comment. and, since it might close due to eminent domain, that place should have as many good shows as possible. last month, i saw miss tk and the revenge there. so awesome.

if you're coming from the city via jersey transit and are worried about muggings, just call a cab. i think asbury is one of my favorite beaches in jersey just because it's so desolate most of the time. also, on the beachfront, i've never felt sketched out during the day.

and yeah, ocean grove is a ruling town, even if it is a dry one.

I still don't get why people are willing to pay over two hundred for a pair of tickets to the mccarrel pool show, when for about ten dollars you could take the train to asbury park, and see the band in a venue less than a fifth of the size.

i haven't been able to dig up anything on the china club show, either through marshals, the china club, or any other contacts. anyone have any info? wouldn't we have seen something by now?
