"who is actually going to buy tickets to this? 2 shows? who are they fucking kidding "
I did. The album's fantastic, and I bet they'll be fun live. If you don't want to go, don't by a ticket.
Posted by hamish | June 20, 2006 4:07 PM
i won't be "by"ing any tickets.
thanks hamish for the advice

Ah see if its not an obscure band that no one cept for you and some douche at pitchfork have heard of we must.not.buy.tickets. Must find bands no one else knows about...and then go and be disappointed when they suck. But then we'll go and find ANOTHER little band no one has heard of but...

who has heard of Dirty Pretty Things? Not me.

Uh, another reason to see DPT, aside from the fact that their album is pretty damn good, is that they regularly incorporate Libertines songs in their live sets. Sweet.
Posted by MarlowTunes | June 20, 2006 4:25 PM
too bad Libertines blow
Posted by Anonymous | June 20, 2006 4:26 PM
fuck you marlow
but yea, dirty pretty things are ill - they play libertines songs, they essentially are just a more organized libertines
if you know who the libertines are, and like their music, then not only are you not musically challenged, but you should also be buyin' tickets you cod
Posted by dillon | June 20, 2006 4:27 PM
and anyone who says the libertines blow is just a quack
if it weren't for the libertines music, then pete doherty and all those babyshambles H-heads would be either homeless or dead - the libertines made pete doherty the icon that he is
Posted by Anonymous | June 20, 2006 4:29 PM
actually I think crackhead antics and a supermodel made Pete the icon he is. not saying that he isn't a talented songwriter but how often do you read about his songs in the sun?
Posted by Anonymous | June 20, 2006 4:33 PM
i'm pretty sure that's what everyone was reading about until the band broke up two years ago - clearly they're not writing about a band that broke up two years ago you fuckin' hipster trend-twat.
do you even follow music?

why is it that every libertines-related post ends up being a debate about whether libertines live up to their hype or whether Pete Doherty is an icon or an asshole. Seriously, no other band on messageboards or blogs sparks such heated debate between uninformed pricks and dedicated fans than these guys. if anything, i think these heated debates are proof of their brilliance, cause you know if everyone loves you youre doing something wrong (coldplay). so keep on hating, cause it wouldn't be punk rock otherwise.
Posted by Pissy Mist | June 20, 2006 4:46 PM
true
also i think the key phrase in the above post is "uninformed pricks"
you fucking love it, YEAH YEAH YEAHHH

hipster trend-twat. I'm going to register that domain name.

Message from the Son of God: The Libertines are ace, and anyone who disagrees with said statement is a heretic.
Posted by Jesus Christ | June 20, 2006 5:11 PM
If having sat in Pete's flat playing guitar and singing with him makes me 'uninformed' than I guess I'm guilty.
Posted by Anonymous | June 20, 2006 5:31 PM
did you happen to tell him that no magazines wrote about the libertines' music? 'cause he'd have a cracked-out laugh at that one
Posted by Anonymous | June 20, 2006 5:39 PM
and also, just curious - how then did he manage to become an icon before dating Kate Moss and using crack?
He became famous because his heroin addiction was the tragic cause of the end of the libertines' musical run, therefore, in effect, destroying one of the greatest bands that was in existence at the time
Posted by Anonymous | June 20, 2006 5:43 PM
anyone who thinks the libertines were one of the greates bands in existence obviously hasn't heard the beach boys
Posted by beachboy | June 20, 2006 5:46 PM
Dirty Pretty Things are great because the Strokes told me so.
Posted by Juggy Gales | June 20, 2006 5:54 PM
COld War Kids are great cause pitchfork told me so

Wow, at the very least you can say that DPT inspires passionate responses, no? Very few bands in recent memory have managed to have an impact in the UK like the Libertines did. They inspired their fans to create. The cult of Peter ran strong with the kids before the demise of the Libertines, and his model-shagging and tabloid antics sort of crushed the spirit of the band sadly. And yes, if you don't like them, don't see the show, don't buy the cd. Damn, this really got a wide assortment of panties in a bunch, huh?
Posted by idontwanttoargue | June 21, 2006 9:44 AM
The Libertines are ace, and I take pity upon those who think otherwise.
Posted by Jesus Christ | June 21, 2006 10:17 AM
have people really not heard of DPT? that's upsetting
and those that think the Libs were shite are gold-plated cunts tbh
and I would love to go to their gigs, but I'm not around then.
and Pete isn't in DPT anyway... so for all of the clever folk who just love to hate - go and see DPT
