BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Posted by Anonymous | June 9, 2006 8:49 AM

Yeah, that's nice and inconvenient.

Posted by Anonymous | June 9, 2006 8:56 AM

well I really wanted to go to this show, but there is absolutely no way I can get to any of those locations at those times. wonderful.

Posted by preston | June 9, 2006 9:03 AM

Source please? In the past these concerts have always been first come / first serve at the gate....I find this wholly un-american....

Posted by matt | June 9, 2006 9:25 AM

jeez, I guess people would rather click away $50 (w/ TM fees) on their computer (then complain about the price) than make an effort to get free tix...
I'm sure if they havent given away all the tickets after June 27 ,you can still turn up at Battery Park July 4 if you get there early.......
I wouldn't stress, peoples....

This is a joke right? Starbucks smells like burnt coffee beans and underpaid farmers.

Free doesn't do anything for me if I can't get out of work to get to any of those locations.

Posted by Steve | June 9, 2006 10:36 AM

How do you think "free" shows of this size happen ?

River To River relies on sponsors and Starbucks is one of them...

You are not obligated to buy a triple latte frappa whatever...

Posted by Anonymous | June 9, 2006 10:41 AM

Mmmm triple latte frappa whatever. del.icio.us

Like Teddy P said, "It's all about Synergy"

For Ryan Adams on the 4th a couple of years ago...it was a lovely show-up-early-hang-out-in-the-shade sort of thing and Starbucks handed out free drinks and provided the only nearby bathroom. boo hiss to this new ticket policy.

bullshit.
just bullshit.

I'm guessing the 13-25 Astor Place Starbucks is the one that's next to the downtown 6 and the Kinko's. I live right by there and have no idea what the street addresses are! Hopefully this will be clear on the day of the giveaway. Google Maps gets really confused when I try to put that address in.

Posted by kathryn | June 9, 2006 1:15 PM

I got that email from B&S's mailing list earlier, and I was gutted. There is no chance I can make it, since I don't work in the city. (Unless I cut out early to make the 5 PM ones.)

Posted by Scott | June 9, 2006 4:29 PM

So anyone have a guess on how early people will line up and how fast the tics will go? Trying to figure out I could somehow pull off skipping out of work early....

Posted by diana | June 9, 2006 4:55 PM

As much as I hate taking off work early to get to downtown manhattan, this really is a smart move after last year's fiasco. Did anyone see anything at the yo la tengo/stephen malkmus show?

I'm gonna show up about fifteen minutes early to what one the noon places, and see how it works out. if i get shut out from that, i guess i'll start lining up at the five o'clock places right away. i doubt it will be necessary though. there seems to be plenty of tickets, and bss are not that popular here.

Posted by Pete | June 9, 2006 5:44 PM

you mean B & S ? .....and how are they not popular in NYC ?

Posted by JJ | June 9, 2006 10:41 PM

honestly. who cares? the new album is 10x more terrible than the last. in short: they are not what they once were and they will never be as that good ever again. its a hard pill to swallow, but its true.

Posted by i once loved B&S | June 10, 2006 4:33 PM

Their last album is great man. They might have had better stuff before (I don't know), but whatever.

Posted by Eduardo | June 10, 2006 5:37 PM

they get better with every album. this concert will be amazing (remember the outdoor show a couple years back at prospect park!?).

it's worth taking some shit at work to get these tickets. you only live once. hell, even if they fire you... must be a pretty crappy job if you can't get out a little before 5:00 to snag some tickets to the concert of the summer. i give a loud "boo hoo" too all of you suckers.

Posted by Derek | June 12, 2006 9:12 AM

looks like derek doesn't have a ... real job. must be great to be in summer break, huh?

Posted by v | June 12, 2006 4:05 PM

went to the starbucks at barclay street on broadway. ppl there had no clue what i was talking about.

Posted by pmunda | June 13, 2006 2:45 PM

and now of course, i realize that i dont actually know hot to read, oh well, back again on the 27th.

Posted by pmunda | June 13, 2006 2:56 PM

Look, I live near Battery Park. Have any of you actually been there since last July 4th 2005?????
Its under MAJOR construction to fix the 1/9 train station plus they found like a 300 year old wall from the Dutch settlers under the lawn. SOOOO if having to obtain tickets that are FREE (FREE HELLO!) to have a bit more elbow room to see this show I am happy to do it.

Posted by Judy Rum | June 15, 2006 10:42 AM

Its true. The lawn in Battery Park is half closed by the MTA. The space is really limited this year. B&S put on a great show so if I don't get tickets at least I'll know ahead of time to make other plans. It's not like you have to buy anything to pick up tickets. If you dont like the format then stay home and whine!

Belle and Sebastian is not really a good outdoors band. I thought that their performance at Keyspan last year was tepid at best. They're much much much better inside.

Posted by john | June 19, 2006 12:27 PM

I just recieved a confirmation email. No waiting in line at starbucks for me!

Posted by danfun | June 19, 2006 1:49 PM

i just received the confirmation email as well. thanks for the posting the heads up dan, as much as i would have loved standing in line at starbucks for hours...

Posted by john | June 19, 2006 1:55 PM

no problem I hope it helped a few of the people that said they wouldn't be able to make it to these locations at these times.

Posted by danfun | June 19, 2006 1:57 PM

I wonder how long this line will be at Starbucks?

Make a show free or not; this is just perverse. F-this i'm moving to Glasgow.

Jesus you guys are annoying. Either go or don't go, just stop making fools of yourselves by publicly whining about how Starbucks ended the world and you can't get off work. Yeah, Starbucks is nasty--and of course you would prefer spending 45 bucks a pop so that only you and your bourgie friends could afford July 4th plans with any substance...Get over it!!! and for the rest of us--please shut up.

"you can enter to win now

WTF? I subscribed to the R2R wire thing specifically to get info on B&S tickets and this is the first time I heard about this ticket giveaway. I never got an e-mail or nuthing...Why wasn't I notified?

Oh well. I'm already taking tomorrow morning off so I'll be lining up at Starbucks first thing....

Posted by Matt | June 26, 2006 11:06 PM

All tickets at the Woolworth Building Starbucks were given away starting a few hours before noon. Lame lame lame.

Posted by qbf | June 27, 2006 12:00 PM

It sucks to go there at 11:30 AM and find out that they are all gone since they were supposed to start giving out at noon. It is kinda pointless though if there are already people waiting in line. Apparently some people were there since 3:30 this morning.

Posted by Bao | June 27, 2006 12:03 PM

they actually only started around 11 or so - i got there at 10:30 and was fine. my guess is they did a headcount and were already maxed out. but i called around this morning and the woolworth location had 700 pairs and the park slope location had 500 pairs - the other two locations will probably have quantities in that range this afternoon.

Posted by rajeev | June 27, 2006 12:04 PM

yeah woolworth's was a bust. id ont know what time one should start lining up for the 5pm giveaways.

Posted by pmunda | June 27, 2006 12:15 PM

anyone have info on park slope tkt status?

Posted by Anonymous | June 27, 2006 12:26 PM

bullshit. had I known that I'd be fine arriving at 10:30 and only have to wait 30 minutes, I would have done just that. they need to find a better way to handle this. like write an essay on why you deserve to go.

Posted by Anonymous | June 27, 2006 12:26 PM

anyone have info on park slope tkt status?

Posted by Anonymous | June 27, 2006 12:30 PM

the line at astor place is already a block long.

Posted by Anonymous | June 27, 2006 12:37 PM

went to the one at woolworth bldg (b'way & barclay st) this morning... got there at 9am and was about 100 ppl back in line. no one knew how many tix they were giving out. at 10:35 or so the line started moving & they were giving out the tix bc the line was like about 500 ppl long (at least) and they had 500 pairs of tix. feel bad for the people who came at noon.

Posted by t | June 27, 2006 1:09 PM

the park will fit 6k according to the river 2 river employee i asked when i picked up my tickets from the contest they did last week, so manybe the 5 pm starbucks locations will be giving away more tickets than the 12am ones.

Posted by Anonymous | June 27, 2006 1:40 PM

6,000 people? --> 3,000 pairs.

In the contest last week they gave away 500 pairs. According to the comment above, they supposedly gave away 700 pairs at woolworth and 500 pairs at Park Slope. That's already 1,700 pairs.

Assuming that they hold some pairs for employees and other VIPs, I don't think there will be that many more tickets for the remaining two locations compared to the other locations. We'll be lucky if they're each giving away another 500-700 pairs each.

for what it's worth, an employee at the astor place starbucks told me this morning that she thought they were giving away 800 tickets.

Posted by Anonymous | June 27, 2006 2:03 PM

does anyone have a job. how can everyone afford to stand on line for entire days, just for a concert? I'm just bitter.

Posted by Jonny Leather | June 27, 2006 2:06 PM

most of the people standing in line looked to be about twelve to seventeen years old. and, some vestiges from the summer of '67.

Posted by Anonymous | June 27, 2006 2:15 PM

Not getting tickets is a blessing in disguise. This is a CRAPPY VENUE with SUCKY SOUND and NASTY SECURITY

See them inside a venue when they come back through, spend a little money on tickets, save yourselves the hassles.

Free is not free in this case; you just aren't paying in cash.

Posted by Anonymous | June 27, 2006 2:27 PM

Hey I heard that they may have some free tiks for the B&S concert at tomorrow nights Dr. John gig...not sure if its true or not, but I'm meeting my friend down at the Battery Park...hey i figure if it's true we'll swipe a tik and if it's not we'll still catch a free concert

this is such a joke -- who has time to wait in line for this bullroar?? and of all places for people to pick up tickets -- starbucks??!!

way to go 'river to river' festival, you're pathetic, the info you provide sucks -- and the PR info email links to a gmail address -- can you people believe that, a gmail address??

and has anyone called their info line by chance? it's ridiculous!! the guy is yawning on the message -- it's like it was torture for him to act appropriate, do his job, and leave audible info for people via a phone message. if you push a few different #'s, it takes you to their message center. i suggest that everyone call and leave a very salty message (212) 835-2789...

and i mean, isn't this a city organization?? it's pathetic!! gawwwwwd...

I have 4 tickets, BAM!

I may have an extra one. E-mail me.
