New Arctic Monkeys bassist no longer temporary

NO MORE MONEY (more)
Arctic Monkeys @ Webster Hall

"The band broke the news on their official website, where they said: 'We are sad to tell everyone that Andy is no longer with the band. Nick O'Malley, who stood in for Andy while he was absent from the recent tour of North America, shall carry on playing bass for the remaining shows this summer. We have been mates with Andy for a long time and have been through some amazing things together that no one can take away. We all wish Andy the very best.'" [Tripwire]

Posted by sam | June 20, 2006 1:11 PM

this guy has been relegated to being the "fat one."

Poor fat bastard.

Posted by Anonymous | June 20, 2006 1:20 PM

was he the dude on the cover of the record?

Posted by Anonymous | June 20, 2006 1:44 PM

he didn't even get an encore.

Posted by Anonymous | June 20, 2006 1:46 PM

'Was he the fat one?'

Hmmm. He did the tour due to fatigue.

Chunky Monkey

couldn't stop laughing at the comments - so funny and absolutely unpredictable!! priceless

Posted by Anonymous | June 20, 2006 2:57 PM

he was notttt the guy on the cover - that's their friend (chris, i believe) from sheffield

it's really a shame that andy had to leave, as that replacement fella Nick is a bit trashy at the bass, especially when performing live with the band

BRING BACK ANDYYYY

Posted by Anonymous | June 20, 2006 3:00 PM

yo, he's not that fat, and thank god the world has another entirely emaciated (and zitty) band of hipsters roaming about. bring back the husky one.

Posted by d | June 20, 2006 3:47 PM

he was the hot one. i;m done listening to the monkeys now

BEWARE THE GREEN X OF DOOM! IT'S KILLING THE ROCKSTARS!

Posted by Brett | June 20, 2006 10:26 PM

It's true, the first thing I thought when I heard about this, I thought to myself, it's coz he was fat. Oh boy. The record company was most def behind this one.

Posted by James | June 21, 2006 1:25 AM

i really doubt he was axed by the record company because he was fat - their entire europe follwoing will be disappointed to hear he's leaving, not glad

to them it's like losing a beatle - definitely a down, not an up

Posted by Anonymous | June 21, 2006 11:33 AM

like losing a beatle? come on.

Posted by Anonymous | June 21, 2006 12:20 PM

beatles? fat?

come one, name one legendry band with a fatass i it? unless you count emo bands who sometimes have a fat dude so they will tap into the fatass sector...The Starting Line comes to mind, and they are hardly great

Posted by Anonymous | June 21, 2006 12:37 PM

maybe you were at roseland and didnt get the message....but down is the new up

Posted by Anonymous | June 21, 2006 12:49 PM

to put what he said in better words - andy had a distinct personality, each member did

now that he's gone, he's been replaced by nick - a random face, lacking band personality

it felt like andy contributed to the band's presence, while nick is just there

Posted by Anonymous | June 21, 2006 1:28 PM

umm..meatloaf?

Posted by rad | June 21, 2006 2:17 PM

meatloaf yes

andy was, and still is I presume, a lovely lad and a right good bassist
nick's alright as a bassist tbf, but the dodgems were utter shite
andy will be missed (although he hasn't died so it's alright)

and don't call him a fat bastard you gold-plated cuntbags

Posted by Anonymous | June 23, 2006 2:50 PM

Ummm... The Donnas?

Posted by Pandora | July 10, 2006 1:26 AM

don't worry andy, its just another case of the cool ones being punished 4 trying 2 live the rock n roll dream and everythin around u tryin 2 stop u. if u ask me, there all panzies wiv clever lyrics n cathcy melodies, ther just lookin out for number 1 n dont believe what they say. it must b so long since theyve experienced anything that they sing about, theyve been pampered 4 2 long. i think they will lose the commen touch and i rekon this next 1 will b a flop. just another franz ferdinand. 1st album was mint tho boys n u helped make that andy my boy so u can always say u were in the arctic monkeys when it was good and not about playin to 100000 ppl but 20 . dan

I prefer Nick O'Malley, no offence to Andy though, he was great though and he isn't fat!! Why would he leave the band for that 'made up reason?' Maybe he was just sick of the comments that people like all of you's were making. Long live Andy, but move over for Nick. Nick is great.
