what drug do you dudes think it was? my money is on acid. people at gothamist are thinking it was weed, which shows that nobody who reads gothamist has smoked pot.

wasn't "flying" on drugs covered in a 70's era afterschool special on PCP?

true that HS. the comments that follow this posting just go to show that the anonymity of bloggers leads to a rise in asshole-ism.

Posted by Anonymous | June 30, 2006 8:13 AM

Maybe some of your comments are a true showing of what drugs and mental illness can do to your body. In all honesty the medical examiners office has indicated that it will be at least 6 weeks before the official findings will be made and any statement one way or another is premature at this time.

Having known him his whole life I do know that he was a good person and that this was very out of character for him. His family, loved ones, friends and those people who actually knew him are grieving for the loss of a fine young man with his life in front of him.

uhh maybe sam and co. can be poster children for what lonely assholes do on their spare time - insult people who tragically pass away. seth was extremely kind, friendly, calm, and never touched anything like acid in his life.

Seth was a special person and his family and friends who truly loved him and still love him know that he is now in a better place with his grandaddy. Those of you who are making unkind comments must not know what UNCONDITIONAL love is. Seth had the support of his family like no other I've seen.

there is tragedy in every death and especially this one because it was so undeserving. please let's not dishonor the memory of seth, it's so painful for everyone who knew him and so wrong.

Posted by YJ | July 1, 2006 11:17 AM

.....as the newspapers are quoting - ..."He was out of control . . . He was screaming and pounding on the walls," said Arthur, 18, who declined to give his last name, adding that Pitman's behavior sharply contrasted with his calm demeanor just half an hour earlier... "He started to hit the girls. Then he tried to kiss them - and then the guys. He swung at them and tried to kiss them.. - "Maybe the so called "Arthur person from the 4th floor at 205 west 54 str' WHO WAS JUST THERE HALF HOUR EARLIER AT THE RICHY POSH APT ON THE 8TH FLOOR who "SO QUICKLY" AND eagerly spoke to the press the evening of Seth's death is trying to cover something indeed. Seth was fine when he came into the apartment. He was very pleasant. He never tried to kiss ANYBODY LET ALONE A MAN, he was very calm and polite. He was an educated and talented young man and everybody loved him.. Seth became sick ONLY after the HOSTS OF THE PARTY AND ARTHUR AND HIS FRIENDS from the 4th floor WHO came up into the 8th floor apartment with additional substances. AND Indeed as Seth started feeling uneasy and started praying for his life, at that time. Instead of trying to help him they panicked, TRIED TO CLEAN up as much as they could and quickly "RUN-out the door" just before the police came..... and they "RUN to the Press to cover their behaviour....... Hmmm !! EVERYBODY WHO WAS THERE BEFORE AND AFTER SETH EVERYBODY WHO CAME INTO THAT PARTY THAT NIGHT HAS TO COME OUT OF HIDING AND TELL THE TRUTH Maybe they wanted Seth ( THE ONLY AFRICAN AMERICAN GUY THERE ) to be introduced to the "bong experience" as "ARTHUR" was heard saying it in the party "try your first BONG man". As another blogger sugested maybe it was laced with something. Maybe Seth's death will TEACH all OF US, RICH AND POOR TO STOP TAKING DRUGS. GODSPEED SETH WE LOVE YOU.

message from Seth's family:

We know that many of you are mourning Seth's death and wondering how this could have happened. The news reports have been distressing, and in many cases, completely untrue. We have spoken with friends who were present and believe that most likely a previously undetected medical condition led to his death. Here is what we've learned.

He and his girlfriend, Elektra, were visiting with friends on Monday evening. After about an hour, Seth wanted to leave because he was feeling strong discomfort. He and Elektra walked into the hallway and Seth immediately starting praying aloud for help from God. He then slumped over onto Elektra, seemingly having passed out, but then Seth began displaying erratic and loud behavior. As friends went to get help, Elektra and her cousin, Olivier, went back into the apartment with Seth. While Elektra and Olivier were in the bedroom, they heard glass breaking. When they returned to the living room, they found
that Seth had broken through a reinforced double-plated window, falling to his death.

Seth was not drunk, nor was he taking drugs. The investigating
officer stated that he might have had a brain aneurysm, which would explain his sudden change in behavior. Medical professionals have suggested the same possibility. An autopsy was performed, including a toxicology screening. We will share the results when the report is released in about six weeks.

According to friends and family, Seth was very pleased with the
direction of his life. He and Elektra were happy. He was working in a job that he liked, as well as composing and performing music. He was making plans for the future and was content with his life. He was planning a trip to Milton to visit family in two weeks.

Seth loved life and new adventures. He treasured his many friends and would be pleased with your loyalty, friendship and love. Thank you for the phone calls, emails and the expressions of sadness among yourselves. We thank you for making Seth's life rich and full.

We are confident that Seth is in heaven today. As a Christian, he
believed that God loved the world so much that He sent his only son, Jesus Christ, so that whoever believed in Him would not perish but have eternal life. This was a personal belief for Seth. This knowledge gives us great strength and comfort during these difficult days.

Services will be held in Milton, Florida. Specific arrangements are yet to be made.

2001 Milton High grad dies after apparently falling out of high rise

Seth Pitman, a 2001 Milton High School graduate, died early Tuesday morning in New York City after apparently falling out of the window of a high-rise building.

Pitman's body was discovered on the second-floor scaffolding in front of an 11-story building in midtown Manhattan, New York City Police Department officials said.

An investigation is ongoing, and no arrests have been made, officials said.

Pitman, 23, graduated last year from Johns Hopkins University with a degree in chemical engineering, family members said.

Funeral services have not been scheduled. Lewis Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

"Seth was an outstanding young man," said the Rev. David Spencer, pastor of First Baptist Church in Milton, where Pitman was a member.

That's sad. I wonder if the marijuana was laced with anything. I've heard that some dealers will lace it with PCP to make it cheaper and feel stronger.

Posted by ricky | July 2, 2006 2:36 PM

dhex - I didn't mean cheaper to buy. I meant cheaper in terms of the dealer's expense. For example, they can take old weed with little value and lace it to make it stronger. So, it's cheaper for them to produce what seems like quality pot, but still just as expensive for the buyer. The "cheaper" should have meant "cheaper production costs". I hope that makes more sense as to what I meant, but I could still be wrong...

Posted by Duderinoo | July 2, 2006 2:37 PM

There is a very dangerous strain of tainted 'suicidal' pot going around. This pot is light green in color and has a punget smell to it. Stay away at all costs.

Posted by hammer jammer | July 2, 2006 2:38 PM

'm willing to bet it was not a reaction marijuana, but the pcp's that laced the marijuana. many street delivery dealers use this to "enhance" their product. making the buyer think they're getting the chronic when they're not.

also, i'm sure this will be the last the news has to report of it as well

Posted by edEx | July 2, 2006 2:39 PM

If it was the marijuana, which I doubt, if it was laced with something, then yet another reason to LEGALIZE IT.

I just want to say how sorry I am, because Seth was such a great guy. I had several classes with him at Milton High, and he was always fun to be around. He will be greatly missed. My prayers are with you.

I was Elektra's roommate for two years at Hopkins, so I got to know Seth pretty well just out of necessity. He was wonderful person, and always knew how to make me laugh. I can't believe I will never see him eat her bizarre cooking or scare me with his driving in the Celica of Terror or take me to pick up my towed car again. He was so talented, and he gave of himself constantly. I am so grateful for having known him, and I hope that everyone who cared so much about such an incredible person can offer comfort to each other at this time. I know we will all be praying for Seth back here in Baltimore.

For those of you that are so quick to judge others, be ashamed. Remember ... Judge ye not, lest ye shall not be judged. And the 'Judge' is our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. It is enough that the 'journalist' at certain papers in New York and other areas, are truly not journalists - they are mearly tabloid reporters for the most part trying to get themselves a 'By line'. They were calling all over the place in Seth's hometown asking people about Seth before his family was notified of his untimely death. A true reporter would have shown respect for his family and friends.

For those of you who did not know Seth, he was a wonderful, loving, caring, kind person who always had a glowing beautiful smile on his face. He was extremely talented and shared his talent to all those who would listen. Seth had a wonderful testimony and from the many friends who have shared their memories of Seth with other friends and his family, it is evident that Seth was a Christian and had a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Having known Seth all of his life and watching him grow into a young man, I can truly say he will always be missed by his family and friends who are honored that the Lord chose to share him with us, if only for these few short years. We know that Seth loved each of us and he knew he was loved by us. I was truly honored each time I heard him say 'I Love You Aunt Vanassa' while giving me one of his beautiful smiles and great big hugs. I along with the rest of his family and friends will always hold our memories of him in a special place in our hearts.

A young Johns Hopkins University graduate smashed through a double-pane window early yesterday and plunged to his death from a millionaire family's posh midtown apartment after night of partying, police and relatives said.

Pitman, a chemical engineer who moved to Brooklyn to pursue a career in music, was at the party at 205 W. 54th St. 8c before his death, pals said.

Falling six stories, he slammed against an air conditioning unit before landing on a second-floor scaffolding, where he was found dead about 1 a.m.

"I know my son trusted Jesus as his Savior. It was something he believed and lived," Donnie Pitman said from her home in Milton, Fla. "I asked his girlfriend, is it possible someone slipped him a drug? She said no, nothing like that happened.

"To hear him running wild, trying to hurt people, breaking through a double-paned glass, it makes no sense."

The tragic party was thrown by Oliver and Natalia children of millionaire Jean Claude Simille, who owns a lucrative beauty and day spa business. Simille said he and his wife, Marie, were in Albany at the time of the bash.

"You know what your children are doing?" he asked reporters. "I feel terrible about this. But I feel good that my children are fine."

Seth Pitman's girlfriend, whom he met at Johns Hopkins nearly four years ago, said she was scared to get close to him while he was acting crazed. At one point, his screams roused a tenant four floors below, the doorman and the superintendent.

"I see this guy flipping out, banging the walls. Then he tried to attack these guys," said the tenant, who gave his name only as Arthur. "He was enraged. There was something that snapped."

We followed him back inside the Similles' apartment and left him in a bedroom. Moments later, she heard the sound of shattering glass.

"He was alone in the living room for only a few seconds," she said. "People were waiting, hoping he would calm down. He was completely in his own world, but no one thought anything like this was possible."

Salon owner Jean Claude Simille always is au courant--adds free WiFi access for clients

The Business Review (Albany) - Richard A. D'Errico

Removing stress: Installing a wi-fi hotspot made time at the spa more relaxing and boosted sales.
Going to the spa was once a way to shut out the demands of the world.

Now businesspeople can't relax unless they're connected. Being away from the office creates a stress of its own.

So, Jean Claude Simille, owner of Jean Paul Day Spa and Hair Salons, spent $3,000 to put in a hot spot in his spa in Stuyvesant Plaza in Albany, giving customers free wireless Internet access.

Instead of worrying about missed e-mails while they are getting their nails done, customers can go online from just about anywhere in the 9,000-square-foot spa.

"What it does is takes away the stress these customers have," he said.

Simille's other Stuyvesant Plaza hair salon is undergoing a $250,000 renovation. It also will have a hot spot sometime next month.

Wireless is becoming more pervasive. It's popping up in places like Starbucks and in some restaurants. Simille, 68, said it makes good business sense to give customers what they want, and what they want is to stay connected.

"I'm old," he said, half serious. "I want to do what these young people like."

Jean Paul is a high-end salon. Several local personalities go there to their hair done. Albany Mayor Jerry Jennings, CBS 6 news anchor Liz Bishop and former Gov. Mario Cuomo have had their hair done there.

Simille also is getting a fair share of younger clients at the shop. Girls as young as 14 come in.

"If we don't do this, how do we keep their attention when they're here?" Simille asked.

Salon general manager Kathryn Pitcher chimed in: "You have to go along with the times."

So far, the customers are responding.

"I love it," said Kathleen Wilson, who works in sales at a local company.

Wilson, 38, goes to the spa every six weeks. She brings her Dell laptop with her.

"When I'm there to get my color done, I'm in there for an hour to an hour and a half, and so I can get a lot done while I'm there," she said. "It gives me some freedom during the end of the day. If I want to step out I can get some stuff done."

Simille said it has been an evolution. In the 1980s, customers pestered him to use his phone. It's not good business to turn down customers, he said, especially when they're paying as much as $95 for a haircut.

He put in a pay phone, and eventually gave customers access to a cordless phone.

In the mid-'90s, they wanted to use his fax machine, and a few years ago they wanted to use his computer. Many customers still have faxes sent to them at the spa.

"Everytime you turned around, there'd be one person after another lining up to use the computer," said Pitcher. "We saw that there was a need."

A need and an inconvenience, Simille added. "People too often asked to get on our system. It was creating a problem."

Simille opened a hair salon around the corner from his spa was to keep competition out. When Stuyvesant Plaza management told him it had plans to put in another salon, Simille told them: "No way. If you want a second salon, I'll do it. If I'm going to compete, I'm going to compete against myself."

Asked who is main competition is, Simille said: "Everyone who owns a pair of scissors."

Last year, Jean Paul Day Spa and Hair Salons had revenue of more than $5 million.

Simille said putting in the wireless connection is another effort to keep customers from going elsewhere. He's only aware of one other salon in the state offering wireless connections, and that's in Manhattan.

In the next month, he plans to put in a business work center, including a computer, fax machine and phone line. Again, at no charge.

"I'm sure there are customers I would have lost if another competitor did it first," Simille said. "I wanted to make sure I'm the first."

WHACKED-OUT WINDOW CRASH

June 28, 2006 -- A talented young musician suddenly went berserk after a night of boozing and smoking pot in a ritzy Midtown apartment - slapping his girlfriend and pals before leaping through a double-paned window to his death on scaffolding six stories below, cops said yesterday.

Jumper Seth Pitman "was enraged, something snapped," said Arthur, a resident who saw the 23-year-old wildly flailing at about a dozen friends in a hallway at 205 W. 54th St. early yesterday morning. "He was flipping out."

"He was out of control . . . He was screaming and pounding on the walls," said Arthur, 18, who declined to give his last name, adding that Pitman's behavior sharply contrasted with his calm demeanor just half an hour earlier. "He started to hit the girls. Then he tried to kiss them - and then the guys. He swung at them and tried to kiss them."

Cops were investigating the case as a suicide, but the Medical Examiner's office said a final ruling on Pitman's death would not come until an autopsy and toxicology tests were completed.

A Florida native who lived in Bushwick, Brooklyn, Pitman graduated Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore last year with a chemical engineering degree. He was doing catering work while pursuing interests in singing and guitar. On June 17, Pitman performed solo at Arlene's Grocery on the Lower East Side, and last summer toured the Northeast with a college buddy in their band Moksha.

"He was very intelligent," said Lewis Lynn, principal of Milton HS in Florida, where Pitman was a National Honor Society member. "He was a nice guy, always in a good mood, very popular. A happy-go-lucky guy."

On Monday, the musician and some friends went to Yankee Stadium and watched the Bombers beat the Braves.

Pitman and his girlfriend, recent Hopkins graduate Elektra Carras, later went to the West 54th Street building along with Carras' cousins, Olivier and Nathalie Semille, who live there in an eighth-floor apartment owned by their parents. In the Semilles' apartment, an already drunk Pitman smoked pot, police sources said. He soon began acting erratically.

"We heard a lot of noise," said Arthur, who went upstairs from his fourth-floor apartment to the eighth-floor hallway to find Pitman screaming incoherently "at the top of his lungs," punching walls and "hitting his girlfriend" as he violently resisted efforts to calm him.

Arthur ran downstairs to get the building superintendent, and most of the group that had been with Pitman left the building, telling a doorman he "was going crazy, trying to beat everyone up," said the super, Ismet Arifi.

Within two minutes of their departure, at about 1:08 a.m., Pitman sailed through the living room window in the Semilles' apartment - breaking through the reinforced glass and a window screen - crashing atop a scaffold along the building's second floor.

Pitman landed facedown on the scaffold.

The toxicology report is about to be published by the medical Examiner. I recommend that all the people involved read it carefully and give us a feedback including a report on all the party organizers at the Similles apartment on 205 west 54th street and all the people who were there including oliver and natalia simille, Arthur, Dean, Alex and all the people who brought the substances in the party ( what was in the Marijuana Bong, you gave Seth?) and everybody who was questioned by the police the night of Seth Pittman's death. Finally we will find out exactly what caused and who is responsible for Seth's sudden death. From Milton to New Orleans RIP Seth we Miss you every day

That site is incredibly depressing. I don't know whether it's exploitive or a public service. Either way, feck.

OK who got the toxicology report? It's been months and it seems funny how fast the family came here defending him, but now that the report is out where are they to prove them right? Come on somebody has to have it.
