Petra Haden not in Decemberists anymore | playing shows

Chromewaves found this post by Colin Meloy on the Decemberists message board:
"it's an amicable thing; we still are friends. For one thing, we initially had asked her to come aboard as a touring musician for just the Picaresque tours. We hadn't really expected to take her on as a full-time part of the band. There was some talk about that happening, but in the end, after the tours were over and we were back in the comforts of our homes it didn't necessarily still make sense".
So maybe my Foo Fighters 'tour date' post really should have read "The EX-Decemberist Petra Haden is playing violin for Foo Fighters this summer".

Good violinist, not so good with the singing.

Obviously you haven't heard That Dog or The Rentals or her a-cappella version of "God Only Knows."

She's a very gifted musician, but she never seemed to fit in with the Decemberists in a live setting (and her violin was always mixed too loud). Her recorded work is great, but her live vocals, at least with the Decemberists, weren't on par with her recordings.

Obviously you haven't heard the fucking Beach Boys if you think that's a good cover.

It's hard to judge that song on it's merit as a cover without considering the fact that there are no instruments involved. As far as the oft-frowned-upon genre of a cappella is concerned, I think its a very interesting and well produced track (and better than her "Thriller").
