Good news. Scissor Sisters are playing the Siren Festival, says Billboard. We've got three more acts now left unannounced.
Previously
Deadboy & The Elephantmen playing Siren, Mercury, etc.
Cher saw Scissor Sisters, Axl Rose was at Misshapes

I guess no rocking out this year. Even the Pier 54 shows have no rock bands either this summer.

um yay.

Speaking of FREE festivals, does ANYONE have info yet on how to get tickets to the free belle and sebastian show on July 4th? i needa know if i have to wake up early and skip class again and wait on line for 3 hours, like i did for the Wall Street rising free shows. (and yes you need tickets, but its free. kind of doesn't make sense. isn't it outside anyways? you can probably hear it from anywhere?)

Posted by Anonymous | June 5, 2006 8:44 PM
>well then i won't be seeing your faggy ass there
But you will be seeing the faggy asses of Scissor Sisters there, won't you.

Ugg, Worst...headliner...ever. And I was loving the line up with Cribs, Deadboy, and Art Brut

People are seriously excited about the Scissor Sisters? Really? Isn't the joke old by now?
Posted by Anonymous | June 5, 2006 10:38 PM
Wait until you are delirious with dehydration and 'Uncomfortably Numb' starts up. Then you will understand how awesome this is going to be.
Posted by Chris | June 5, 2006 10:44 PM
all these scissor sisters haters have clearly never seen them live. without a doubt one of the most fun live shows you can see. few bands compare to them. go to see any other band and what do you get? a typical NY crowd where people are too cool to get down. go to a scissor sisters show and what do you get? a funky party. and they fucking rock. fuck all the haters.
Posted by halified | June 5, 2006 10:50 PM
oh gawd, you indie snobs
Posted by Anonymous | June 5, 2006 11:08 PM
Perhaps they need a third stage where people can get up and bitch fruitlessly for eight hours about how they can't STAND the acts playing at the other two stages.
Main Stage, Stillwell Stage, Nader Stage.
Posted by J | June 5, 2006 11:20 PM
Only MotorHead can save this festival now!
Posted by Anonymous | June 5, 2006 11:46 PM
But the Scissor Sisters are local, so we all have seeb their act by now. Yes, the live show is fun, but that doesn't change the fact that their music is not that good. Their schtick is getting old. Plenty of good acts out there to choose from.
Posted by Anonymous | June 5, 2006 11:49 PM
>i will elton, but my pooper won't be going near you
Worry not, my closeted friend. I wouldn't be caught dead at this year's Siren fest, even though Scissor Sisters will be performing.
Posted by Elton John | June 5, 2006 11:59 PM
Blows my mind how people can bitch about a FREE festival. It's really insane. Hell, even if they were charging $14 for the fest it would be insane to bitch about the lineup because it would only be a buck per band. THIS IS FREE!
Incredible.
Once again, if you don't like the lineup, don't go. More room for the rest of us who appreciate a FREE 14 BAND FESTIVAL.
Fools. I hope you are bitching about the lineup just to be annoying, because otherwise...
Posted by Anonymous | June 6, 2006 12:06 AM
Don't make me go apeshit on you like I did to those reporters in Taiwan or wherever the hell it was.
Posted by Elton John | June 6, 2006 12:11 AM
No. I will not let you take away my right to bitch and moan like a little girl about this. I'd gladly pay for Siren. They choose not to charge. Actually, I think I'd rather pay, just so the crowd would thin out a bit.
This is the only decent fest for those of us on the east coast. And now it is headlined by a novelty dance act. Plus, the top candidate to headline Stillwell is She Want's Revenge. The top of the card this year is a mess. And the under-card is so good. Just sad to see them blowing it.
Posted by We complain out of love. | June 6, 2006 1:31 AM
my guess that Stars and She Wants Revenge will be the two headliners not Scissor Sisters. They will most likely be second to last on the main stage. I am just upset about She Wants Revenge but otherwise I am excited.
Posted by Rob | June 6, 2006 8:28 AM
Scissor Sisters will headline for sure...come on now...wanna bet?
Posted by Joe | June 6, 2006 8:40 AM
just because it's free doesn't mean it can't suck, and if you don't complain or do something else to make your opinion known, things will continue in a downward spiral of out of touch west coast ian curtis rip offs and local fun but crappy novelty acts.
Posted by Anonymous | June 6, 2006 8:55 AM
but scissor sisters aren't a novelty band, their album was amazing. much better than most of the shit that you hipsters lap up, just appreciate that you're getting a hell of a lot for the price your paying. i don't think there's a single free festival in britain, let alone locally to me, so just grow up and appreciate that you've got it better than a lot of us do.
Posted by Anonymous | June 6, 2006 10:07 AM
you kids need to calm down. the siren fest is about drinking and eating and hanging out in coney island for a day. the bands are secondary. how many of those bands can you actually get close enough to see or even hear? we live in nyc, every band you could ever want to see comes through about 50 times a year. i mean art brut practically lives here now. the pitchfork fest has cornered the market on all the hip indie bands, but chicago during the summer? fuck no. i'll take coney island, booze, new york girls and nathan's instead. i don't give a shit who's playing.
Posted by will | June 6, 2006 10:19 AM
i agree with the above post. people calling the scissor sisters a shtick or a novelty is unfair. their first album is great and the songs sound even better live. this is why i think they are a great live act, not just because they put on a high energy glam performance. i have seen them 3 times now and only want to see them more and more.
Posted by halified | June 6, 2006 10:20 AM
The Scissor Sisters are probably not the headliner. I think the Voice is holding out on announcing the headliner. The Flaming Lips are playing a free festival in Philly on the 16th and mysteriously don't have a New York date on their tour schedule.
Posted by jcast | June 6, 2006 10:35 AM
A true headliner for an all-day festival should ideally have at least three full albums under their belt. For something as "indie" as Siren, they should at least be somewhat influential. So far, none of the bands announced meet these requirements.
I believe the main reason why people are complaining is that the announced lineup so far doesn't equal in any way the previous years. Other years have had much better bands.
Although I love the Lips (10+ shows for me) I do not want to see them at Siren. I will gladly pay to see them so I won't have to fight the crowd.
And yes, Scissor Sisters are a novelty act.

"i'll take coney island, booze, new york girls and nathan's instead. i don't give a shit who's playing"
- Amen brotha! I agree with you completely.

Priestess is on the bill now too.
Posted by gypsymazzurco | June 6, 2006 11:36 AM
priestess sucks big donkey dick, and while yes, the line up is a little underwhelming, who cares!!! as long as it isnt raining, it is always a good time. and every year after the festival the only complaints one really hears about are the size of the crowd and the humidity. im sure this year will be no different, and you cant blame siren for the humidity.
Posted by Anonymous | June 6, 2006 12:18 PM
priestess fucking rocks too....what the fuck is wrong with you people?
Posted by Anonymous | June 6, 2006 12:27 PM
Is Priestess an all-girl Judas Priest tribute band? That'd be cool.

FYI- Belle and Sebastian finally released info on how to get tickets for their free July 4th show - and it involves inconveniently waiting on line at a Starbucks in the middle of the day on June 27th (and a 2 ticket limit no less). Lame.
Looks like I'll be calling out of work that day.

Starbucks?! WTF!

Sirenfest is one of the best free outdoor concerts period. They have the most bands under the radar and people are usually well behaved and having fun. I have no complaints.
The only complaint I have is Brooklyn Vegan's photos of events. I just see sweating, skinny, pasty t-shirt wearing musicians. It's honest but boring. take a photo of the scene, girls, spilled beer anything but sweaty dudes in T-shirts.
There, I said it.

Siren is like pie and chips.
It's pie. And chips. For free.
Posted by Anonymous | June 7, 2006 10:26 PM
No, the hottest girl ever at Siren was the Voice's own Tricia Romano.
