How were the Lovely Feathers?

i thought they were pretty bad. i had to "make a phone call" when they started to play and ducked outside

Tokyo Police Club were pretty bad as well. Not sure what appeal they would have to the ML crowd (21+).

I liked TPC

I also left during the Lovely Feathers. Got to see Kristin Diable at The Living Room before coming back for The Grates. She's playing/recording again tonight (as if you don't have plans by now).

I loved the lovely feathers! Why did you think they were bad? They may be bit geeky/quirky, but they rock at the same time. Their performance had the energy and conviction that TPC lacked last night. Did I mention the lovely feathers make me want to dance? To each his own I suppose....but my vote is cast for unique rock!

I was waitng for a Zoolander walk off between some of the members in the Lovely Feathers - the keyboardist in the tights and silver hot pants, the guitarist with the v-neck undershirt sporting the chest hair (for $10 bucks he could have shown some nipple) and the bassist with the sequined cowboy shirt.

they were just plain horrible. the end

The Lovely Feathers didn't sound confident or well-rehearsed. Their transitions were shaky and every note they played sounded tentative. The final straw for me was when they "demanded" audience participation, taught us two notes to sing and our cue (two guitar chords) then expected us to remember to do it four minutes into the song. They were also continually pissed off about not having the monitor mix exactly right. There comes a certain point when you have to suck it up and quit scowling at the sound guy.

But The Grates were incredible. Make sure you catch them next time they're around.

I'm bummed I missed the grates. I saw the lovely feathers play at the Bowery before the spinto band, and their set went smoothly--no sound check stalls, and the crowd seemed into them. The audience was 16+, so maybe their music caters to a younger crowd? Too bad their last show didn't go over well. I concur that the yellow spandex outfit is reminiscent of Peelander Z.

the lovely feathers were too picky about their sound and were kinda pissing the sound guy off...,

i loved the lovely feathers. i agree they were much better at the bowery w/ spinto, but i still thought they stole the night at the mercury. their energy and confidence seemed pretty good to me....i chilled with them at the end, and found out that the sound guy they were using was actually their best friend and sound guy for the whole tour (they were talking w/ him about the mix, apparently they didnt have a sound check, and their extended line check was due to that problem.....)
anyway hopefully next time they'll be as good as they were 3 weeks ago. I liked TPC and enjoyed the Grates as well.

I thought that I would throw my .02 cents in the mix. I really liked The Lovely Feathers and would make a point of seeing them next time they are in town. While TPC was enjoyable, the lacked the energy of the bands that followed.

The Grates were a lot of fun -- I have some pictures up on my website http://brooklynrocks.blogspot.com. I'll try to add my picture of TPC and The Lovely Feathers later this weekend.
