Bloc Party played Stone Pony, DJing Misshapes | Pool Set Times
Kele from Bloc Party is DJing Misshapes Saturday night. Earlier in the day he's playing a sold out show at McCarren Pool in Brooklyn. Here are the set times: 6:15 - Mew, 7:20 - Secret Machines, 8:30 - Bloc Party.
LAST NIGHT IN ASBURY PARK
Bloc Party concert last night was cut one song short due to an "electrical storm". Two songs into the encore, the rain started to come down and lightning was evident in skies. After a brief conversation with the stage managers, the band said goodnight which was subsequently met with boos from the crowd. Kele responded with something on the lines of "You had fun though right? We will repay our debt to New Jersey soon" and the crowd responded with cheers. - Bao

Last night was such a fun show; outdoors near the beach, encore of Price of Gas ending in the rain. Hooray Bloc Party! Hooray New Jersey! Hooray Beer!

was pretty shocked to arrive and discover the outdoor faux-festival setup -- can't complain, especially given the nice temp.
prob wasn't a great idea to open with "Waiting for the 7.18" -- a song that likely few ppl in the crowd knew -- but it was pretty good except for the awful mix/levels. Likewise, Russel's guitar effect and excessive volume ruined "Hunting for Witches."
I'll post some pix (somewhere) if anyone wants. Julio (et al): head to blocparty.net's blog for live recordings of new tracks; for example,

i was at the stone pony for bloc party and it was probobaly one the shittiest shows ive been to in a very, very, very, long time. Basically, it goes to show why you pay the extra 20 bucks to see a band in NYC for a good crowd.

Hey, just got back from the Pool show. It was amazing. Everyone kicked serious ass, and there were no assholes in the crowd or anything. Everyone just had a good time.

Methinks Mike and Erik need to get a room and work out their crowd differences....

I was actually pretty happy with the Stone Pony show in spite of the storm and the fact that it was all ages. I thought the crowd was really decent and have any of the stylistic one upsmanship you usually see in the city. One kid even jumped up on stage and hugged Kele and ducked the security guy safely. Made me smile. Morrissey would be proud.

I did not like the crowd at Stone Pony at all and agree with Mike. I drove down from NYC and have never felt so out of my element at a show (w/possible exeption of Alexi Murdoch at Makor last month). NYC has WAY friendlier and less stuck-up people attending shows than what I experienced at Stone Pony. (I include Maxwell's and all Brooklyn venues under the NYC umbrella above.)

i disagree the crowd was very friendly and i met three very nice people there. the concert was amazing. i reallyw anted to them to play luno. but they didnt. and the finished before they could play compliments and little thoughts. as kele said he owes us one.

Im a summer show warrior, and I have to say the pool show was no doubt the best of the season. They sounded on point for every track and the crowd was up for it and there was no $hitty hipster vibe. Im from NJ, and I plan on hiking in for more events at the pool....awesome venue.
