CBGB Closing September 30 | Rocks Off booking final shows

CBGB isn't closing on Halloween after all. Blabbermouth is now reporting they'll be gone a whole month earlier - September 30, 2006 to be exact.
THE FINAL SHOWS: "Fittingly, steadfastly independent New York concert promoters Rocks Off have signed on to book CBGBs closing festival, set to take place throughout August and September. They are in touch with many of the artists who made CBs famous, and are hard at work putting together a final schedule that will do justice to the club's enduring impact in the many varieties of rock and roll it has helped to cultivate throughout the years."

Thank the goddess this will be over soon and people will stop demanding I pay to make up for bad business decisions. Yeah the band I was in played there once a looong time ago but once they started working for the RIAA with their big "no recording" signs in the windows and enforcing it they had taken themselves out of the loop as far as I was concerned. They can keep the music if they need it so bad. As soon as I saw those yuppie towers going up I knew CBGB would be taken out. What'll happen is the homeless industry foundation will sell the building, make a lot of money and MAYBE relocate to some cheaper part of NYC, while the board/mgt will give themselves bonuses. Don't worry folks, Tonic is next. Those big hyper-yuppie towers that now surround Tonic are going to move them along just like CBs and Wetlands got moved and they've been trying to move the KF the same way.

The place hasn't been booked well in at least 13 years. Any other club booking the same way would've been out of business a decade ago.

I miss Brownies.
Even as someone who rarely ventures out of Brooklyn to see a show that isn't at Tonic, it pains me to see the death of Manhattan.

I hope they burn the place down closing night.
