David Lee Roth played Nokia & Bluegrass again on Late Night
DAVID LEE ROTH IN MICHIGAN | JUNE 30, 2006 (CRED)

Remember how David Lee Roth did that bluegrass number on Leno and how he scheduled some recent comeback tour dates including one at NYC's Nokia Theatre? Well, the NY Times went to the show, and David did bluegrass again, but this time on Conan.
As the camp factor skyrocketed during the second hour, the crowd’s affection began to sour. When Mr. Roth soft-shoed during “Just a Gigolo/I Ain’t Got Nobody,” a heckler shouted, “Go back to Atlantic City!” When he told a rambling story about the naming of “Dance the Night Away” (something about a drunk woman “with her pants on backwards”), a group of men impatiently shouted “Van Halen!” And when he brought out a bluegrass band to play two songs from “Strummin’ With the Devil,” a countrified Van Halen tribute album, there was a mini-exodus from the main floor.

re: bv
it was the pre-siren party. supreme trading was packed for the big sleep and professor murder, and oh no oh my played last. everyone stuck around and there was a great energy in the room before they played, but then they actually started playing.
Within the first 3 songs, the room had become half empty. Most of the people who stuck around had stopped even bobbing their heads, save for 4 dancing drunk girls, nobody was into it.
The band was sloppy, they played all the stinkers from the album back to back. the singer apologized for it being so bad. the cocky bass player went on a rant that started with "did anyone see us at the knitting factory? that girl who played keyboard with us really sucked. you can tell her that i said that."
There were beach balls in the venue that, for the earlier band, had been tossed around and it was obvious the crowd was having a good time. by the time oh no oh my's set was over, the only thing people were doing with them was flinging them at the band.
with a crowd that started at a healthy 150, by the end of the set i would predict about 25 people had stayed all the way through.
i was waiting for the negative reviews to trickle in the next day, but it seems that bloggers dont like putting their feet in their mouths.
oh no! oh my!, indeed.
