When the hell is the gov't gonna step in and stop Ticketmaster/Clear Channel/Live Nation from monopolizing the entire concert industry... Isn't Musictoday as much a presale ticketing resource as it is a fan club operator?

I believe Live Nation is no longer part of Clear Channel

1. Live Nation is no longer part of Clear Channel Entertainment.

2. The more direct relationships Live Nation can build with music fans (through this acquisition and others) the less power Ticketmaster has.

3. I would venture that Live Nation will build or acquire a ticketing service to compete with Ticketmaster (their venue deals with TM expire soon).

4. It will be interesting to see how independent and midsize promoters react to this and other Live Nation acquisitions. My bet is they will just look to the government to reopen anti-trust investigations. What they should do is innovate and compete with Live Nation.

this whole thing is interesting for sure. now clear channel gets to decide whether or not it wants to give the best seats away via auction on ticketmaster, or to the fanclub where it can jack up the membership prices and make money that way. it's win win for clear channel. the only change i think you'll see is an increase in fan membership fees....because, well, they can.

honestly, at this point, the government needs to get involved and Clear Channel needs to be really broken up. They've eaten up all competition in every regard. And the self-imposed split of clear channel and live nation is such a face move, they're really completely the same entity still. It needs to go.

You have no idea what you are talking about. Zero.

Do you realize who makes up the stock and top positions of Live Nation? Original stock holders are tied to Clear Channel and Clear Channel CEO is Live Nation's VP.

They may be a "spin off" but they are anything but indepedant.
