Of Montreal @ McCarren Park

Four free McCarren Pool shows down, and I still haven't been to one of them (out of town, Amadou & Mariam, friend in hospital, etc..). The photos in this post (taken by others) are from yesterday's Of Montreal show (July 30, 2006). I heard it was easier to get a beer than the not-free show the day before in the same spot.

Of Montreal @ McCarren Park

Aug 6 - The Detroit Cobras, The Legendary Maxine Brown , The Everyothers, Trick and the Heartstrings, Tiny Masters of Today
Aug 13 - Deerhoof, Beirut, Apollo Sunshine, The Harlem Shakes, DJ Questlove
Aug 30 - Archie Bell & Mighty Hannibal backed by The Dansettes, The Fabulous Soul Shakers
Aug 27 - The Walkmen, Dr. Dog, Human Television, Elvis Perkins
Sep 3 - Spank Rock Gang Gang Dance, Shy Child

Last Sunday, Tripwire presented Bon Savants, Pretty Girls Make Graves and Jason Lytle.

Anybody catch Asobi Seksu? Their new CD's really good.

you can also add Of Montreal to the "bands that have covered 'Crazy' by Gnarls Barkley" list. (they ended with that song yesterday)

Posted by eatsdirt | July 31, 2006 1:35 PM

also the sound wasn't very good. Asobi Seksu were really good.

Posted by olololer | July 31, 2006 2:00 PM

the sound could have been better (sound guy was trying to push too much volume out of too small of a system), the water situation was ridiculous, and their set felt a bit short.

the music they did play, however was really good I thought, and I have absolutely no regrets about going.

Asobi Seksu were great, although I couldn't really get into the other two groups that played (especially enon --- the vocals were fairly irritating)

What, no one else mentioned the singer's two post-skirt costume changes or the sword? Those were some of the best parts.

great cans!

that man is special...not gay, SPECIAL!

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2006 3:32 PM

Asobi Seksu were great except I felt they would have been better in a smaller, darker environment. Outdoors isn't really the place for that kind of music, but they were excellent despite the sun.

Speaking of the "ool" can it really be that Sonic Youth will take the stage BEFORE the Yeah Yeah Yeahs? My ticket says "YYY AND Sonic Youth." Anyone?

I'm pretty sure that Sonic Youth is opening.

Two things about the singer of Of Montreal: every time i've seen them (twice in nyc, once in san diego) he screams "this is the best crowd ever," and could anybody look more gay? not that i'm saying it's bad, i'm just saying.

Posted by Murphy | July 31, 2006 7:46 PM

very nice rack. I bet she is not into indie-rock Seriously, ever met a shapely hipster?

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2006 8:10 PM

yeah. he's married and has a kid.

funny how that works out. I couldn't believe that the bassist kept that fur hat on the entire time....

good set, enon played pretty well two, i have some pretty good pictures i can link to sometime after i upload them. gnarls barkley cover was a good excuse to beat the crowd out of the pool.

Yes, I feel as if I must describe:
(ps, 'singerguy'= Kevin Barnes)

The costumes:
1. Red coral cape which was thrown off to reveal the red and green ensemble pictured above.
2. Creme colored pants and peach colored velour shirt.
3. Super-tight white pants and red cowboy shirt.
During this last costume, a strapping young boy in green polyester overalls, no shirt, came on stage, knelt in supplication, and offered him a samurai sword. Kevin Barnes looked down dramatically, grabbed the hilt of the sword, pulled it out, and thrust it dramatically into the air.

They also had scraggly flags that said words like "DEAD" and had pictures of suns and faces.

That is all.

Zip Anon.: Thanks, but that's a front view of her. It doesn't prove that her ass isn't fat.
