"The Hold Steady are getting ready to release their third album, Boys and Girls in America on Oct. 3 via Vagrant. The set, made with the help of producer John Agnello, is the first for the band on Vagrant and will feature the keyboard playing of Franz Nicolay. "The nice thing about piano is that it is such a dynamic instrument," singer Craig Finn told Billboard.com. "It gives [the songs] more space." As for the album's title, it's a reference to a line from Jack Kerouac's On the Road. "The line goes, 'Boys and girls in America have such a sad time together,'" Finn said. "Basically, the songs are about guys and girls, and love. It's not a concept-type record like the last one -- it's more of a theme record."" [SPIN]

Can someone fill us in on how ticketing for this odd venue works?
Haven't been yet. Thx.

new record on vagrant? you line up at battery park. at 5pm they give two tix to each person on line and then you can continue to wait on line until they let you into castle clinton or you can go and come back but be prepared to stand.

Bowery Ballroom house right/stage left. Am I right?

everyone ends up standing after a song or two at the castle clinton shows. but it still sucks not to have a seat since the non-seated areas are way off to the side and it's impossible to see anything. (ranger joe will shoot to kill if you attempt to stand in the aisles)
i can understand maybe having a couple of rows of seating up front for the truly hardcore fans, but they could fit so many more people in front of the stage if they got rid of the majority of seats...

i always felt that these shows are run rather well. saw spoon, cat power, magnetic fields, and m ward there over the years and always saw the bands up close.

Nice to see we in NYC get a Sunday show, when Friday and Saturday are currently free and clear.

No one's mentioned that it's being billed as a "special, stripped-down acoustic performance"...

now THAT'S gonna be a bit weird to hear the Holdsters, eh?
