"This past weekend, Voxtrot played what was arguably their largest show in the area, opening for established acts Matt Pond PA and TV on the Radio as part of the Prospect Park's Celebrate Brooklyn concert series. 'It was totally awesome,' says guitarist Mitch Calvert. 'At the Prospect Park show, I got the feeling that people in the audience knew who we were.'" [The Daily News]

has anyone noticed how the past couple of years CMJ has been awful and the week previous or week after has better shows? i've seen sigur ros, pj harvey (at KF) and i believe the flaming lips / beck tour hit Beacon before cmj? there's more but i forget them at the moment..

hey BV,
what's it like knowing you can make a band semi-seccessful with your blog? part of me loves it since you are honest; part of me hates it since i like meat/dairy.

Austin,
Your argument is so absurd, it's actually funny.
First, Voxtrot went from playing Joe's Pub to Mercury Lounge, and now Bowery Ballroom. Wouldn't that suggest that Voxtrot has a.. gasp... growing following? With all due respect, how is BV making them relevant if the band continues to attract more fans to its shows?
Second, BV hardly ever posts about his veganism -- his blog is focused on music. How does your consumption of meat/dairy figure into your point?
Third, successful is spelled as I just have. I don't think it made Putnum County's list of challenge words.
Finally, I don't understand why so many of you continue to rip on this band. I can only postulate that many of you can't stand that fact that a pop band is making it in the indie blogosphere. You're the same people who disdain Band of Horses. How focused are you on being cool?

it's ok not to like a band, mr spinach.
some people (psychology lesson!) are even more inclined to dislike things that are shoved down their throat by media (yes, brooklyn vegan is part of the media).
ps voxtrot sound like a younger (or just another?) version of belle and sebastian.

"love in a time of cholera" put it quite nicely. so much so I chuckled.
it has nothing to do with voxtrot being a "pop" band either Spinach, but rather a BAD pop band
of course somebody cares, enough so to fill up the bowery (persumably) 2 nights in a row
Posted by bingo | July 26, 2006 4:27 PM
or enough for their label to buy most of the tickets...

"it has nothing to do with voxtrot being a "pop" band either Spinach, but rather a BAD pop band"
a very unsubstantiated statement that one

Voxtrot sucks MY ASSBALLS. There. I said it.

Am I the only one who doesn't read the posts about bands I don't like?
Posted by jonathan | July 26, 2006 5:14 PM
Cut the crap. Name one band you like and respect. Seriously. Do it.
Posted by Spinach | July 26, 2006 5:16 PM
people just like to see their name and opinions in print. it's not like anyone listens to 'anonymous' posts. anytime there is a posting of voxtrot (or most bands on here) you can guarantee a 'this band sucks' comment. no one is listening. voxtrot is obviously more successful that their bands otherwise they wouldn't be posting on BV. thank you, and have a great evening.

uh, maroon 5 seems pretty cool.

Bob Dylan and His Band

whats the point in arguing about this in cyberspace?
what?
nothing.

"Bob Dylan and His Band"
you tell me - there hasn't been any decent music since bob went electric

This is a pretty funny thread!

Isn't it spelled 'Putnam'?

sorry, your rationale for thinking everyone who posts on a thread of someone they don't like being in a band that sucks is ridiculous. i work in a field entirely unrelated to music and I think this band is as cheesy and derivative as most of you do. i just think it's so silly to think any dissentive voices=band who hasnt't made it, or dude who doesnt' "know fun"
it's a website and people post about shit b/c there is a place to post about shit
and yes, voxtrot IS SHIT
Posted by sorry | July 27, 2006 12:44 AM
"i work in a field entirely unrelated to music"
is that because yor band is going nowhere?
Posted by Anonymous | July 27, 2006 7:30 AM
ooooh touche. no turd, because i'm NOT A MUSICIAN, i know it doesn't seem possible for someone to hate on a band that isn't for some reason BITTER about their own band, but I'm afraid it must be you projecting. Because like I said, I'm not, nor have, or ever will be, in a band. either way it doesn't change the fact that Voxtrot is boring rehashed smiths
Posted by . | July 27, 2006 8:59 AM
I haven't seen the word "turd" in ages! Awesome! That's going into my daily rotation today. I also saw "assballs." Now, I like that word for comedic value, but it's a bit vulgar. I'm also a fan of "douchbag" and "assface," but I'm afraid they are too mainstream now. In any event, this is a fine collection of insults. I approve!
p.s., I'm not a musician but I like music, and thus I'm qualified to post that Voxtrot ain't that pleasing to my ears. However, it's pleasing to others, so I'm not warming up my steam-roller to crush their CDs outside City Hall. Art is subjective, right?
p.p.s., turd... there, I said it again
