Voxtrot opened the big-free-annual-indie-rock show in Brooklyn's Prospect Park Friday night (June 30, 2006). Matt Pond Pa and TV on the Radio were also on the bill. Last year's concert equivalent featured The Sadies, Stars & The New Pornographers. This year The New Pornographers' Carl Newman returned, but only to watch the show.

Voxtrot frontman Ramesh's mom was also at the show; he told us. She flew in all the way from Austin for the event, and the crowd cheered for her. It was Voxtrot's largest NYC show yet (by a lot). Though not nearly as packed as it was for TV on the Radio later in the night, the band was most likely playing to thousands.
Highlights of the 35-minute, 7-song set included watching Ramesh's mom sing along to The Start of Something, and hearing a new song called Steven - it was awesome. Add Steven to the two new songs I heard Ramesh play the night before at Syrup Room, and throw in one super-secret-exciting record producer, and I'm pretty sure we have a great Playlouder debut album to look forward to some time in the near future.

Catch Voxtrot on a NYC roof right before the fireworks on July 4th.

they were so cute! i like it when bands interact with the crowd and synchronize jumps.
and now i'm thinking about that rooftop show as well... what an awesome 4th of July that would be: Belle & Sebastian in the afternoon, Voxtrot in the evening.

Voxtrot has no right to anything they have. Their music was the equivalent worse than even the worst karaoke i've ever seen. They most certainly should not have been allowed to open for TVOTR. Not at all. It was supposed to be a Brooklyn band showcase and there are more than enough awesome Brooklyn bands that you don't have to fly up that awful mess.
If someone dares to compare them to The Smiths in front of me they are asking for trouble,

camille, you have a posting about KEANE on your blog. do us all a favor and shut your fucking mouth.
Posted by douchepatrol | July 4, 2006 9:51 PM
Dear Douchebagpatrol,
Please watch your language. Geez.
You might note that my blog is a blog about the touring industry and NOT a blog giving my opinion about music. If you actually read you might have observed that.
Also, though I am not a fan of the band, Keane is better than Voxtrot.
Thank you,
Camille

Oh, snap! I hope this turns into another "discussion" like the one going on under BV's blog entry about the Donnas.

but seriously why does everyone care so much about voxtrot? i really don't see the big deal. i guess i like them alright, but i'd say they're way more similar to keane than they are different. easy listenin?

Voxtrots one of the best bands to come around lately so why dont all you keane pussies just go and listen to your boring piano pop.

Voxtrot are the definition of what's wrong with "indie culture", so fucking derivitive and useless, but they'll have 1000 New Yorkers cream over them anyway.
NEWS FLASH: Knowing about every obscure piece of shit doesn't necessitate you having good taste.
