Ailing music biz worried about glut of new albums
"...From September through the end of the year, albums expected to join the platinum parade are due from Clay Aiken, Alan Jackson, Ludacris, Beck, Evanescence, Jet, My Chemical Romance, Keith Urban and the Killers. There will also be plenty of big releases for the older demos from the likes of Bob Dylan, Rod Stewart, Elton John, Sting, the Who, Meat Loaf and Bob Seger......
...Finally, there's always a sleeper album of the holiday selling season. This year, Ngo believes it will be from Yusuf Islam, who stopped recording as Cat Stevens in 1978...." [Yahoo News]

As a consumer, having more new releases to choose from is far more appealing than not. However, I probably won't buy any of the ones mentioned.

Ya think Salman Rushdie will be attending the Cat Stevens aka Yusuf Islam concert?

Yusuf Islam eventually rescinded his support for the fatwah against Rushdie. And if I remember correctly, Khomeini's successor as religious leader called it off.
It would be kinda ironic if a record by someone with the last name 'Islam' becomes a bestseller during the Western holiday season.

From Wikipedia:
"On 21 September 2004 Yusuf Islam was traveling on United Airlines Flight 919 from London to Washington. While the plane was in flight, the Computer Assisted Passenger Prescreening System flagged his name as being on a no-fly list. Customs agents alerted the Transportation Security Administration, which then diverted his flight to Bangor, Maine, where he was detained by the FBI.
The following day Islam was deported back to the United Kingdom. The United States Transportation Security Administration claimed there were "concerns of ties he may have to potential terrorist-related activities." The United States Department of Homeland Security specifically alleged that Islam had provided funding to the Palestinian Islamic militant group Hamas..."
If you think Clear Channel put the kabash on the Dixie Chicks just thing what they'd do to Yusuf Islam!
