Annuals "Be He Me" | MP3s & Tour Dates

DOWNLOAD: Annuals - Brother (MP3)

"File this under the 'stuff what comes out in October' category if you will, but word on the street is that Pitchfork is getting the jump on this band tomorrow, which means we're going to throw it out there today." [Postcore's Preemptive strike]

"Ace Fu Records is blowin' up, what with getting their claws into Man Man, blog faves DeVotchka, and Books-alikes Tunng. But if their forthcoming Be He Me album lives up to what this track (Brother) promises, North Carolina-based Annuals might be the label's best find yet." [Pitchfork]

Their show at the Ace Fu Showcase at SXSW was very underwhelming but perhaps they have gotten better since then.

I saw this band at Pianos last month and they were AMAZING! Can't wait to see them when they come back in September. Brother makes me cry.

Posted by jane | August 23, 2006 1:55 PM

According to MySpace, she's 15. Also, unless the 9/15 show has been moved, it's at Southpaw.

Posted by Anonymous | August 23, 2006 2:18 PM

She's no Lily Allen.

once again BV you got your finger on the pulse of Annuals hotness. f*ck the haters. expect good things from them.

Posted by get hype | August 23, 2006 2:42 PM

this band is great. my sister said that the band was really depressed about the sxsw set they played when they got home

Posted by Anonymous | August 23, 2006 2:59 PM

didn't know what all the hype was about... till i saw them live. plus anna makes me feel like a man.

Posted by halfbreed | August 23, 2006 3:04 PM

uh Sam? there were a couple of people ahead of IGIF according to BV's post. ka-blam!

Posted by still hype | August 23, 2006 3:07 PM

hey guys, err.."Sam" and "still hype" no need to dally in who served up the band first, that's not what blogging's about, you know? anyway, great band, can't wait for the album to drop

Posted by Connor | August 23, 2006 3:18 PM

agree with danfun -- their sxsw performance was super, super underwhelming.

Posted by sm | August 23, 2006 3:26 PM

the show on 9/15 is at Northsix. It's not with The Kills, it's with The Diggs.

Posted by Anonymous | August 23, 2006 3:26 PM

someone at pitchfork fest. gave me a lil promo with these songs on it. not bad at, and now that peopelsay theyre cool, i'll admit to checking out the disk. its good.

Posted by andy | August 23, 2006 4:53 PM

saw them at sxsw this year too - the show was underwhelming but the recorded stuff is much better. it'll take them awhile to get their live show to match up with the record, unlike say arcade fire who came out with an incredible record and incredible live show straight out of the gate.

Posted by wonker | August 23, 2006 9:28 PM

like the band. that girl's not that hot. it's a flattering pic of her. the cleavage, the buttons.

Posted by Anonymous | August 23, 2006 10:34 PM

they also played with half of them off stage and unable to move because the venue sucked just like every "venue" at sxsw. this group doesnt travel light- they had a lot of shit and no room for it. underwhelming? sure. accurate representation of this band? ask anybody who's seen them play anywhere else.

Posted by Anonymous | August 24, 2006 2:36 AM

That photo's a very obvious 'push the attractive one up front' strategy isn't it?

Posted by Richie | August 24, 2006 5:55 PM

^^^works for me.^^^

They're alright, but that chick is pretty hot. there need to be more girls like her in indie rock. definitely.

Posted by asdf | August 24, 2006 11:21 PM

adam told me that their sxsw show was one of the worst shows theyve played in a long time. ive seen them live about 6 times and every time was better than the time before. dont pass up an opportunity to see them

Posted by Anonymous | August 25, 2006 4:05 PM

oh man, what a bunch of haters! annuals can and will beat the pants off any of the surrounding unoriginal indie garbage. their live show is very good as well as their album stuff. also, i've heard the keyboardist dates the guitarist/drummer. they are younger and more talented than most bands twice their age hope to be.

Posted by mrs. aly | August 25, 2006 4:07 PM

what the f***... she is a goddamned musician...and a very good one at that, as are the rest of the members...somebodies JEALOUSSSSS...either that or have very VERY bad taste in music.

the show at piano's was alright; i think they're definitely still getting their live act together, but it's coming along. the record (which i've heard) is pretty damn good.

Posted by ph not v | August 28, 2006 4:44 PM

hahaha annuals twee... well, i guess i could see how you got that if you just listened to the first few seconds of this version of "dry clothes." this is not twee. annuals = primal.

Posted by Brian | August 30, 2006 8:36 PM

annuals are so great!!! i bet the person who took this pic is really weird and does tons of blow.
