Atlantic Records threatens to sue 'Nah Right' blog for posting a Lupe Fiasco YouTube video
"Earlier today I got an email from an attorney representing Atlantic Records threatening me with legal action if I didn’t immediately remove the Lupe Fiasco video I posted a couple of days ago. Nevermind that the video is hosted on Youtube, and that all I’m doing is posting a link to it, Atlantic Records is seriously ready to sue me for what amounts to free promotion for their artist." [Nah Right] (thx Wes)

This "threat" by Atlantic will generate publicity for Lupe via the blogs and end up increasing sales...maybe Atlantic's not so clueless afterall...

Ha! You're right. It probably didn't even come from their Legal Dept and was actually a cut and paste from an intern in publicity.

Much more interesting are the 300+ comments in response to the original story. A frightening illustration of what happens when an entire generation is raised on nothing but semi-illiterate hip hop.

i just don't understand where the music industry is coming from. you don't want people to see and hear about a new artist?

Actually Hugo, I was raised on hip hop and I'm quite literate, thanks. I guess since you post about cokehead Pete Doherty, that gies you the moral and intellectual high ground over me and my readers.
And the cease and desist was real. It came from a well known piracy investigation consultant hired by Atlantic. Whether or not their intention was to use me as a pawn remains to be seen.

Now that's a new one, it doesn't make sense for the labels to pay boku bucks for advertising and then snub a free plug for their artists, ultimately youtube is the one who should have the responsibility because it sits on their servers, if the vid is not sanctioned by the label then they should have the server holding the video held responsible for it, if youtube pulls it then it won't play anywhere.

The word is 'beaucoup', you semi-literate American.

^ Not if you're Richard Lewis.
It's not a good look for the label, nor does it build buzz for their artist to threaten his fanbase's favorite website.
Flashes of Lars Ulrich, these guys get dumber with each round of layoffs.
