Interpol signs with Capitol, not Interscope
PITCHFORK (MARCH 30, 2006)
So, Sam, is it true: have Interpol signed to Interscope?
"Blatant rumor," Fogarino (Interpol's drummer) said. With Interpol's contract with Matador "officially up", the band do plan to shop around their latest wares when the time is right. They've begun writing the follow-up to Antics, and Fogarino reports that the process is "moving right along where I think it should...we're all pretty much on fire about it". For now, however, the major-label-leap rumors milling about are just that, and Sam playfully entreats aspiring gossip-mongers to invent some of their own. [Pitchfork]
COOLFER TODAY | AUGUST 15, 2006
"A while back I posted that I heard that Interpol had signed with Interscope. (Must have been the allure of the Inter- prefix.) It didn't happen. Today Hits reported that Interpol signed with Capitol, the home of Coldplay, Chingy, current buzz girl Corrine Bailey Rae and The Decemberists." [Coolfer]

no more money left for decemberists, morningwood, magic numbers, shout out louds, etc. oh well.

this actually makes sense since they've had some hits, with the decemberists and tv on the radio I'm not sure what the major labels are thinking

Ya know what we need? Some upfront indie band to get signed to a major label, and then let people know over the course of the year how all the money deals have worked out (or not). I know, no one likes divulging their salaries, but what a case study it would make if a band was able to note all the profits from merch, shows, CD and digital sales and whatnot, balanced against costs of touring, CD manufacture, equipment, per diem, etc...just a thought.

that's a stupid idea

all major label deals are pretty much the same when you don't recoup (like most don't). how much was YOUR advance?

Dfactor: How would you account for the record company's overhead?
