Oh, hooray, it's one of these:

"Are you guaranteed entry just because you got this e-mail? Sadly, no. DOORS WILL OPEN AT 7 PM for The Long Winters set, and once the club is at capacity, nobody else will be admitted — so be sure to arrive early!" - from the AutoReply

What else would it be? Should they let everyone in regardless of capacity regulations and fire marshal laws? I'm just trying to understand how you felt the need to point out that they would allow only as many people as capacity would allow.

I sort of had the same reaction as 'J' with regards to the whole "first come first served" nature of this event. But then I started thinking; if the reservations are being made through an online reservation system, is it possible that, on their end, they could put a cap on how many requests they get? It sort of doesn't make sense to allow 3000 RSVPs to get through for a 200 person venue. I mean, does the technology exists that allows them to stop accepting reservations automatically once a certain number has been reached?

Will, I was just pointing out that first-come-first-served doesn't count for the RSVP, but for the waiting-outside-the-box-office. One of those situations I wonder why they even bother having a list. Do I make the trek down there, not knowing if I'm going to get in or not?

I appreciate a world where if you're on the list, you're on the list. I hope Kinski's right about a built-in cap and they're just doing the standard overbooking thing.

i think they are also opening for feist on September 9.

I see. Well, I always feel like free shows are like free anything: There's almost always a catch, or challenge to it. Instead of making you suffer with your wallet, they'll make you suffer with your time/patience/luck. I'd say it's worth it to make the trek if you really like them. Tuesdays are boring anyway.

i didn't even specify what city... opening for Feist, 09/09 in los angeles.

there is no rsvp you idiots, you just show up!

Posted by you guys are dumb | August 4, 2006 7:14 PM

The thing is, I think your name has to be on the list to get in. Even if you're first in line, if you're not on the 'list' I don't think you'll get in. Anyhow, Don't RSVP but show up anyway. I am interested in seeing if the whole RSVP thing is a sham.

Also thanks for calling us idiots. You obviously have such an immense arsenal of friends that you can just lambast total strangers concerned about getting into a free show

no, there is no list, as the email you write to gives you AN AUTORESPONSE.

well, fwiw, i got there @ about 6:15, there was about 5 people standing around out front.. they opened the doors, she asked if i was on the list. i told her "well i should be, i emailed to rsvp" she couldn't find my name, then said "okay, go on in" and just tallied me down. *shrug* was a good show.
