Lou Reed Berlin"Recorded in 1973, Lou Reed’s Berlin was the unexpected, critically panned, follow-up 'concept album' to his popular hit record, Transformer. Although it became a cult favorite and was reissued, Berlin was never performed live. Until now! Arts at St. Ann’s, the Sydney Festival, and UCLA Live! have joined forces to present a theatrically realized concert version of Reed’s stylized rock paean to life outside the circle, the orchestrations filled with the lyrics of the broken hearted and willfully disabled...the drifting tormented addicts of love formalizing their own downfalls in the outskirts of the divided city. From Beerhalle staccato to the embers of a final Sad Song...this is an evening to press between the crumbling leaves of Fall."

The show runs from from Dec. 14-17, 2006. Tickets are $65.

$60 if you purchase by Sat, Sept 30
Use Code: L7W

I saw that too, but couldn't find anywhere to put in the code.

Posted by brooklynvegan | August 25, 2006 12:27 PM

i saw "ucla" in the post and thought "LA?" great! but no- i suppose putting it on in la would make no sense...

I was unable to purchase tickets with the code and bought them without. Was able to get excellent seats. Ticketweb is just as shitty to use as Ticketmaster.

Excellent seats? When I saw Joe Strummer there, it was all general admission. Same thing for David Bowie. Why don't they have more shows there?

Posted by Anonymous | August 25, 2006 3:24 PM

color me clueless, but is lou reed actually going to be performing as well or is this just a theatre type show?

Posted by elguapo | August 25, 2006 3:42 PM

Code no work for me either. Sounds like this will be a theatrical presentation, so I don't mind reserved seats. And there will probably be lots of old people there.

Posted by drewo | August 25, 2006 3:44 PM

Lou Reed will be performing.

this should be posted und "sick stuff" lou ran out of ideas years ago. i see they've recruited steve hunter and bob ezrin for this extravaganza. yikes! there might be a lot of "old" people there,
bet the wise ones will stay away.

Ticketweb code works for me, L7W, just make sure you are buying for the Decemember 15-17 performances - the code doesn't work on opening nights. You can also order over the phone and the code will work 718.254.8779

Also, I know UCLA Live! -- it is a a performance venue in LA (www.uclalive.org)

The concert should be like nothing else I've seen before. Can't Wait!

On the St. Ann's Warehouse website they list Antony as one of the performers.

The production to be directed by Julian Schnabel.

when did bowie play at st anns?

Posted by Anonymous | August 27, 2006 2:58 PM

Bowie played St Anns as part of the NYC Marathon tour back in 2002. I went to the show in Queens, so I am not sure if the St Anns show was seated or not, but I really don't think so.

Antony is part of Lou Reed's band. When I saw Lou Reed at the Bowery Ballroom (2004?), Antony was with him. You can hear him on the latest double live CD. I thought his voice was extremely annoying then, and nothing has changed. How anyone can listen to an entire album with him is beyond me.

The Bowie show had seating in the bleachers in the back, with standing room in the main area in front of the stage.

I saw the Tiger Lillies there for Halloween last year (they're playing again this year) and they had seats in both areas, though I think you could also get GA/standing room at the sides and back.

I just got front row tickets for the Saturday show by calling St. Ann's directly.

The Bicentennial

Three years after Walk On the Wild Side,
As I
Entered high school, I thought
Andy's Chest was
Pure nonsense, so I wrote a song, pure nonsense.

Then I
Discovered the beauty of suicide,
Delmore Schwartz's
Baudelaire.

Now I wanna
Ride Cycle Annie. And
Be a tiger in a tank
