the industry is officially falling apart before our very eyes.
out with the old business practices, in with the new.
decentralize.

From the article about Albert Hammond, Jr.'s solo album that BV posted a link to above (http://www.brooklynvegan.com/archives/2006/08/stuff_i_didnt_g.html):
"The band remains on the road in support of its third album, "First Impressions of Earth," which has sold just 262,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Despite those numbers, the Strokes continue to sell out venues worldwide. "Out record sales get to their lowest point and our ticket sales get to their highest point," [the band's manager, Ryan] Gentles says with a laugh."
Sucks to be their record label.

Some of us prefer the sound quality of CD tracks to that of the tracks from the iTunes Music Store and its ilk.
Me, I'm an old dog who hasn't learned that new trick (downloading, legally or illegally).

I've only just gotten to grips with CD's and still prefer vinyl.

Tower was set to begin selling Kleg Mini's, a competition to the IPOD but fraction of the cost.

cds sound better than mp3s to very young ears only. vinyl sounds better on a $20,000 or better sound system. otherwise you can't tell and you still need young ears. by the time my almost-4 grandson starts rocking record/cd stores will be like antique stores--destinations for a small, discerning, elite clientelle. i dumped over 25,000 cds in the past 3 years, imported everything, burned it onto dvds for storage, and decide which of 3 ipods to take with me each day. 1500 albums in my pocket!!! the greatest invention in my 62 years. who needs/reads cd booklets/liner notes when all the info is on the net. what a future it will be. 1500 in-pocket now, 15,000 in five years. enjoy your relics, collectors, i dig the music.
