Posted by shiat | August 25, 2006 3:38 PM

found this at the river to river website, http://www.rivertorivernyc.com/advisory.php

"Even though there is speculation of rain, tonights Seaport Music show featuring Ted Leo + Pharmacists will go on as scheduled outdoors.

Unless the weather becomes a danger to the artist or the audience, we will do whatever we can to make sure the show goes on.

See you at the Seaport!"

ted beat the rain.. 2 hours w/ the man, fun.

Posted by Anonymous | August 26, 2006 2:23 AM

I've never seen ted leo live before -- he fucking owned. Amazing energy, gives a lot of himself to the audience.

Does anyone know what that cover was he played at the very end? Some punk song from '76, as he said...

"he played suspect device"

by the Stiff Little Fingers.

Posted by Anonymous | August 27, 2006 1:22 AM

Yeah, Ted Leo was cool. I LOVED Tokyo Police Club actually, a great surprise. But DC snipers were --- not my cup of tea.

Posted by james | August 27, 2006 7:54 PM

yawn - ted leo is the only act worth catching at the touch and go snoozefest. the rest SUCK. the new year headlining saturday night? please. triple yawn.

Posted by Anonymous | August 27, 2006 10:53 PM

wow you suck [at telling time]

Posted by Anonymous | August 27, 2006 11:04 PM

the new year is on first, ass. Shellac headlines Saturday night.

also, i love how people complain about the opportunity to see 25 bands for three days for just $35. nothing like this would ever, EVER happen here and if it did, it would cost a fortune.

Posted by Anonymous | August 28, 2006 7:06 AM

it used to happen here back when summerstage was free... i remember sonic youth, sleater kinney, stereolab, guided by voices, all played one summer. and it was all free. $35 seems over priced considering there is probably only one or two bands on that lineup worth seeing.

Posted by Anonymous | August 28, 2006 9:45 AM

"considering there is probably only one or two bands on that lineup worth seeing" -- to your impoverished ears, maybe. I see quite a few bands totally worth my time -- big black, calexico, scratch acid, black heart, ted leo, and even !!!, though not something i dig in terms of at home listening, put on stellar live shows.

Posted by cw | August 28, 2006 9:56 AM

I would pay $35 just to see Scratch Acid and Big Black.

Posted by Anonymous | August 28, 2006 10:21 AM

Seeing people call this a snoozefest is sadly a generational thing.

I am flying out from NYC to Chicago to go to this.

The idea that Big Black is playing live anywhere, if only for 20 minutes is astounding.

Andy Cohen and Tim Midgett playing Silkworm songs after their drummer died is awesome.

The reunions of Three Mile Pilot (Zac formed Pinback, the other guys formed Black Heart), Scratch Acid (half the band including singer David Yow became Jesus Lizard), Man or Astroman, Pegboy, Negative Approach, Girls Against Boys, etc. is completely incomprehensively awesome.

Seeing the new stars like Ted Leo, !!! and Calexico sharing a stage with the Touch and Go label alumni is going to be an amazing end of summer weekend.

This is definitely not marketed to 16-23 year olds who are into music right now. It is a celebration of what Indie rock was 15 years ago. It is cool that this movement has had enough legs to not only make it this far, but have an entire generation of past music to celebrate.

Now if SST can pull something like this together I may have to get a plane ticket to California....

nice post.

Posted by cw | August 28, 2006 2:11 PM

get with the times old people!

Posted by Anonymous | August 28, 2006 2:27 PM

"It is a celebration of what Indie rock was 15 years ago." - - - - a bunch of washed up and washed out has-beens pretending to be the rock superstars they wish they could have been. i'll pass, thanks.

Posted by Anonymous | August 28, 2006 2:39 PM

great post old indie guy..

these newbs have no clue. shorter beer lines for us!

Posted by Anonymous | August 28, 2006 2:47 PM

"washed out has-beens pretending to be the rock superstars they wish they could have been" -- what a fucking retard. Like big black and scratch acid were ever in it to be "superstars". I love how allergic to anything more than 5 years old most people have become. Go back to cranking panic at the disco. And then ditch *them* for the next bright shiny retro-packaged band-in-a-box with enough marketing dollars & dazzle behind it to hold your attention for 3 weeks.

Posted by Anonymous | August 28, 2006 5:55 PM

No one would even make a record called Songs About Fucking anymore because it may alienate the female demographic.

Top three bands I am bummed aren't part of the show

JESUS LIZARD!!!!!!!

June of 44

Butthole Surfers

And did I mention JESUS LIZARD??????

WTF? Anyone get the inside scoop on who the hold out was? Was there a lone hold out?

That would have made this thing LEGENDARY

Posted by That old Indie Guy | August 28, 2006 7:18 PM

people over 40 should not be allowed to play anything that comes close to "rock" live. ever! it's sad and pathetic.
panic at the disco are horrible, but what is even more horrible (and scary) is watching a bunch of unemployed middle-age men trying to relive their 20s.

Posted by Anonymous | August 28, 2006 7:29 PM

Actually what makes us so sad is that we are overemployed upper middle class sell-outs who are flying out to Chicago to pretend we are still jaded indie idealists.

Who knew it was still so controversial to like Big Black?

Posted by Anonymous | August 28, 2006 7:39 PM

"people over 40 should not be allowed to play anything that comes close to "rock" live. ever! it's sad and pathetic."

ever heard of mike watt? i didn't think so.

die already, you douche

"people over 40 should not be allowed to play anything that comes close to "rock" live. ever! it's sad and pathetic."

you're a silly twat. Uninformed idiots like yourself should not be allowed to make reductive, tired, lame commentary like this on a blog. ever. go buy a kaiser chiefs record.

Posted by cw | August 29, 2006 9:45 AM

hey, kid who made the "people over 40" comment...go back to myspace where you belong.

Posted by Anonymous | August 29, 2006 11:43 AM

re: "people over 40 should not be allowed to play anything that comes close to "rock" live. ever! it's sad and pathetic."

Dumbest comment on BV. Ever.

Posted by wiseman | August 29, 2006 5:23 PM

people under 21 should not be allowed to post anything on BV. ever! it's sad and pathetic.

Posted by Anonymous | August 29, 2006 5:26 PM

For the most part, I agree with the "over 40, no rock". There are some exceptions like Iggy, the Dolls, maybe U2, but I think it is better for everyone to just go the Springsteen/Neil Young route. Rock out every now and again, but tone things down a little or you end up looking like the drunk Aunt dancing at a wedding (or worse, Pink fucking Floyd). Yes, it's heartwarming to see the old lady have some fun but, ultimately its undignified and embarrassing for everyone.

Posted by Chris | August 29, 2006 5:38 PM

the "over 40, no rock" comments are as stupid as comments from older people that say modern music is worthless...if you're embarassed to watch people over 40 rock, that's your problem not theirs...don't go to their concerts, they won't miss you...personally, i find a lot of the younger bands embarassing but i'm not telling them to stop.

Posted by Anonymous | August 29, 2006 5:57 PM

I think the guys in Deicide are over 40.

Tell them they are too old to rock. Go on, I'll wait. I'll even identify your body at the morgue for you.

Fucker.

Posted by Lord of HELLFIRE | August 29, 2006 6:26 PM

40 is too old? you've GOT to be kidding...there's a lot of guys around rockin well into their 60's and souding damn good to me.

Posted by Anonymous | August 29, 2006 6:40 PM

brooklynvegan, you must have a lot of people over 40 reading your blog. look how worked up they all get.

Posted by Anonymous | August 29, 2006 7:32 PM

hey lord of hellfire - hahahaha. deicide is cheez whiz to the max. they are like 50 years old and still have the same long hair and spandex. and still growl about the devil and blah blah blah. you think that's interesting? i think it's a joke.

Posted by Anonymous | August 29, 2006 7:41 PM

lol..as far as comparing rockers over 40 with your drunk aunt goes...almost all the old rockers still around/alive have given up execssive alcohol and drug use, unlike Doherty, Hawkins, & Chaplin etc... who are probably much more like your drunk aunt personalitywise.

Posted by Anonymous | August 29, 2006 7:46 PM

hey chris - i agree with your post except iggy? the dolls? no. noooooo no no no. i saw the stooges at roseland a couple of years ago...what a sad mistake. iggy's pants fell down at the end and his bare crinkly ass was exposed for all the world to see. pathetic. and..... he played "tv eye" twice. ho hum. the dolls?? no no no. have you seen what these guys look like now and how they are still trying desperately to look exactly how they once used to? o my. it's kind of a disgrace.

Posted by Anonymous | August 29, 2006 7:50 PM

i'm 54 and read brooklyn vegan religously! go bv!

Posted by Anonymous | August 29, 2006 7:54 PM

Sorry hipsters but I'm 48 and am also an avid bv reader.

Posted by Anonymous | August 29, 2006 8:01 PM

that shut the kiddies up...guess they're all on myspace tonight...

Posted by Anonymous | August 29, 2006 10:57 PM

what do you mean that shut the kiddies up? it proves 7:32pm's point. all you people over 40 reading this thread who responded so vehemently to the "no rock over 40" comment because it obviously struck a nerve. anyway... brooklynvegan has a myspace and i wouldn't doubt that most of you over-40 people have one too.

Posted by Anonymous | August 29, 2006 11:24 PM

brooklyn vegan is 103.

Posted by Anonymous | August 29, 2006 11:50 PM

I am flying out as well. i think the show is a pretty good value.

i also think we might be seeing more from big black. a little bird told me that albini needs $$$$.

Posted by Anonymous | August 29, 2006 11:58 PM

Did that little birdy tell you why the Jesus Lizard suck and didn't participate??

A new Big Black album could be cool. I'm looking foward to seeing what they do at the show.
