Weird Al vs. downloaders, PLUS new DVD & Album
Listen to "Don't Download this Song" at the website promoting Weird Al Yankovic's 12th album, Straight Outta Lynwood, set to release on Sept. 26, 2006.
The lyrics imply that downloading music is the gateway to bigger crimes such as robbing liquor stores, selling crack and running over kids with your car. Weird Al's song, of course, hyperbolizes the issue and sides with us (ahem, the downloaders). "Don't Download This Song" says we should go buy CDs so that artists can buy more ridiculous items, like diamond palm trees. [CNET]
Weird Al also just released The Weird Al Show - The Complete Series on DVD.
The three-disc set contains all 13 hilarious episodes of the series which ran on CBS during the 1997-1998 television season. The discs include a plethora of entertaining bonus material, such as animation storyboards, original art galleries, and a karaoke version of the tongue-twisting theme song. Each episode features a commentary by Weird Al, producer Tom Frank and director Peyton Reed, plus guest commentaries from some of the cast members, including Judy Tenuta and Emo Philips.
