theatre at the gardens? is that the same as the theatre at MSG?

Posted by Anonymous | September 15, 2006 7:50 AM

Yeah, it's at the Theatre at MSG. And I fear that means like a $60 ticket price, although I can't seem to find prices anywhere.

Posted by Eggs1234 | September 15, 2006 9:03 AM

yes, it means tickets are $54.50 and that's without all the dumb ass fees. That's just way too much.

pay the man. his shows are great.

Damnit. Can't he come to Montreal. NYC this NYC that...ba! What I have heard from the new album is great great work. Check out "We Dance Alone" if you get the chance B.Vegan.

I'm sure his shows are great, but I can't drop that kind of coin on a show for various reasons. Not only would it suck my wallet dry, but it's kinda elitist to charge so much. The only kids that'll be going to this show are kids with bux, and I think that sux. The rest'll be old (like I am). It also begs the question, "Why not go to a $10 show and donate $50 to a good cause?" I'm just griping though. Maybe it's money well spent.

Posted by Eggs1234 | September 15, 2006 10:31 AM

it's not elitist. It's just expensive.

credit cards exist for tough decisions.

You could have seen him in Maxwell's a few years ago for less...maybe you need to pay attention mo bettah.

less important that the show is expensive at MSG than that the sound is TERRIBLE there, like a high school PA system. And it's rather important that the sound be good at a Beck show. MSG Theater has beaten Webster Hall as my least-favorite venue.

But people, there will be PUPPETS involved.

NOW is it worth $55+?

I'd rather try and catch new, still-hungry artists in intimate venues than go scrambling around for $75 tickets to see established acts try to fill webster and roseland (i know msg theatre is smaller than the big venues; still its sound sucks and I'm not paying $55+ for anybody except for bands that are worth it... like FOGHAT).

Posted by cw | September 15, 2006 12:13 PM

Foghat rules!!

Posted by Anonymous | September 15, 2006 12:37 PM

Beck is worth it. Sadly, I cannot afford. :(

Knowing that (1) there will be puppets, (2) there will be poor sound, (3) I could have seen him busking for free 15 years ago, (4) etc. makes me not want to go to this concert anymore.

Seriously, thanks for the sounds system comments. I ain't never been to the Theatre at MSG. That's the kind of quality insight one can get from the posters at BV.

puppets not making you want to go makes you seem, I don't know.....AFRAID.

the sound there is fine, it's a pretty good venue.

Don't fear the puppets, man.

Posted by Anonymous | September 15, 2006 2:12 PM

bring earplugs if you stand in the pit. that place hurts my ears more than any other place.

Posted by Qbertplaya | September 15, 2006 2:19 PM

Alright. You is right, anonymous poster. I do fear the puppets (and the reaper, but not the cowbell). If the puppet had nothing to do with Jim Henson, I don't want to know it.

Thinking back, maybe I actually have been to that joint. Was it called something else way back? Maybe the Felt Forum?

Posted by Eggs1234 | September 15, 2006 3:33 PM

Isn't Beck a Scientologist? He needs the money to pay for his "audits" or whatever the hell that "church" charges its followers for.

Posted by Xenu | September 15, 2006 3:34 PM

yes, it is the Felt Forum, also called the Paramount before its current incarnation as MSG Theater.

As far as Beck's Scientology connection, I did some internet research not too long ago when Colbert outed him; seems Beck's parents were Scientologists and the "church" helped get his dad off drugs, so he is careful not to diss them, but he himself is not a proponent of the cult. That's what I could discern from the info; do your own research & decide for yourself. I am not going to write Beck off just for some grey-area rumors floating around...

Felt Forum > Paramount > The Theater at MSG

My first real concert was the Headbangers Ball tour in '89 at the Felt Forum. Woohoo!

Most interesting moment was seeing Sigur Ros there while Billy Joel played upstaits. You could hear all the people banging their feet upstairs.

how many people can fit into the pit at MSG theater? i've never been able to find a pic that does a good job of showing how big/small/inbetween MSG theater is...

Posted by Anonymous | September 15, 2006 4:51 PM

130 for 2 tix. Youch. Anonymous, you best be hoping to get lovesexy with them puppets for that price.

Hahahaha. HB's Ball. That's fantastic. Who played? I was at the FF around the same time. I saw Midnight Oil there in '88, I thinks. That was the closest I've ever stood to a bald, Frankenstein-lookin' dude in my life.

"Hahahaha. HB's Ball. That's fantastic. Who played?"

Anthrax - Exodus - Helloween

Ah, back when metal was good. Anthrax: Queens represent!

"Anthrax - Exodus - Helloween"

I was at this show.

bv, what was your first show ever?

Posted by Anonymous | September 15, 2006 7:07 PM

it was probably beethoven, bv's been around a loooooooooong time!

The sound depends on the production of the touring artist. Each artist has a sound company that brings in their own system. I've heard shows sound great there. A bad production company will produce a bad sounding show, regardless of the artist or room. Beck typically carries good production.

hey Dcamp, do you know David Campaniello? You guys have amazing similar opinions!

i thought radiohead sounded great there.

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2006 1:09 AM

I'm not contributing to any of those scientology freaks.

Posted by jro | September 18, 2006 1:33 PM

Oh my goodness. That's quite a heavy metal line-up. I wonder if BV and Anonymous were in the pit together, moshing it up with their Metal Up Your Ass t-shirts and their mullets. Oh, those were the days.

Sounds like the sounds at the Theater may not be all that bad, assuming Beck brings a solid sound crew. Still, $65 is too rich for my blood.

Enjoy.
