Buju Banton protest @ Chicago House of Blues tonight
"Dancehall musician Buju Banton, who graphically advocates killing gays in the lyrics of his songs, will be the subject of a protest at 7 PM, Wednesday, September 13 at the House of Blues, 329 N. Dearborn Street. In his song 'Boom, Bye Bye,' for example, Banton urges people to shoot gay men in the head, pour acid over them, and burn them alive." [outinchicago]

Seriously, I understand the concerns behind Buju's anti-gay lyrics, but the man is entitled to feel the way that he feels. Homosexuality is something that not a lot of people are comfortable w/....even the president of the United States speaks out against homosexuality (i.e. gay marriage), he might not come out and say "kill gays", but that does not mean that he is not thinking that way.
People who are gay need to accept the fact that a lot of people are adamantly against it...and that's just the way it is...so, suck it up and let this man make his money and allow people who want to attend his concerts the opportunity to.
It's not as if he's a threat to the gay community....stop acting as if he's putting weapons in people's hands to kill gays....whether Buju sings about it or not, people will always feel the way that they do against homosexuality...again, it is what it is.

if the president is against it... then it must be a legitimate point of view. What a stupid point.
Our president also speaks out against the theory of evolution.
I don't think anyone here cares what redneck christian fundamentalists (like our embarassing president) think.

I'm not saying the b/c the president is against it, that it's ok....my point is, that the issue surrounding homosexuality is much BIGGER than BUJU....also, the reason behind that song is b/c of an incident back in Jamaica where some men raped a young boy.....and that's how that song came about....and I don't think my comment is as stupid as the other poster who said that he should be shot...now, that does not make any sense b/c it contradicts the whole point behind these protest against Buju....people in American are just bored and are always going after the small guys, rather that going after the MAN...get a life.

You guys need to understand Caribbean culture to understand why he said what he did.. i'm not saying it was right but there is a reason for it: Homosexuality is HIGHLY frowned upon in Caribbean culture but when it comes to the music ana an artist talks about "killin di battybwoy dem" it's usually not actually directed at homosexuals per se but rather it's moreso in reference to an enemy or foe.. much like how some hip hop artists refer to their enemeies and Bitches but womens rights organizations dont get on then because that term is more accepted than fag.. my point is all those word are derogatory but they aren't open to interpretation. Only the artist knows what he meant.

look i am going to tell all of you this stop being so deffensive on gay rights and gay people and leave buju banton alone. he is not the only one who sings like that . but the thing is that he had a reason. yea he talked about gay people. they should be used to it by now, homosexuality is not only frowned on in carribean culture it is frowned on in alot of cultures and i don't think it's wrong to be a gay couple but when it comes to doing that stuff like kissing or being intimate on tv or in public it is disgusting and it shows that gays have no respect. little kids watch tv and listen to music but most of the time the imitate or repeat what they see and they ask alot of questions. no child should be subjected to see this on tv and how would you like to explain to your child why two men or women are kissing on tv or in public. and you alll need to THINK yes it wasn't right to talk about gays in that manner but it also wasn't right for a man to rape a young boy. think about that. and just think and stop talking because this will never end and i want to know how this country supposedly has so much freedom and rights but u ban sumbody for talking on how they feel or what their views are. the goverment had no way to make the ku klux klan an unlawful group they used to march in washington, but a man gets banned from preforming in certain places and countries for speaking his mind the SUPPOSED same thing the klan was doing and expressing ?! i think bush is wearing off on the country because you guys get stupider and mor ignorant while he is in the country. you guys really need to sit down shut up , get a life and stop minding others peoples and whining and complaining like little girls. 1
