I wasn't sure of the timing of Kurt and Courtney's meeting but found this from the long time music columnist at the Seattle Rocket who recently put about a book about Kurt...

"Something that’s been bugging me constantly about Nirvana is the date of when Kurt first met Courtney.

The ‘official’ version is that the pair first met in Portland 1990 - as told by Azerrad, Cross et al. There’s no factual basis for this story at all, just Courtney and her concern at not appearing too much of a golddigger.

I happen to know that I actually introduced the couple in LA at a Butthole Surfers/L7 concert in May 1991 - but the ‘official’ biographers choose not to believe this version, even though I have many close mutual friends who back me up here. Trouble is, the only person who could really verify my story has been dead for over a decade now.

Today, while researching the book, found this tucked away in a joint Kurt + Courtney interview with Sassy magazine, January 1992: 'I saw him play in Portland in 1988,' says Courtney. 'I thought he was passionate and cute, but I couldn't tell if he was smart, or had any integrity. And then I met him at a show about a year ago. 'Butthole Surfers,' says Kurt. 'And L7,' adds Courtney, 'I really pursued him…”

Ha! Take that crap revisionist historians.

What? Courtney Love mentioning Kurt to get publicity?! This is unheard of!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by Erik | September 25, 2006 12:03 PM

Yeah it's "Drain You"..."About A Girl" was about his ex-girlfriend Toby.

Courtney Love is multi-talented. She is a great songwriter, performer and actress. She is a drug addict. She loved Kurt and he loved her. She is manipulative and full of empathy and hope and regret. She loves her daughter and cares about her fans. She lives to entertain. Is she more interesting that you? 1,000%

It is safe to say scores of songs by many musicians have been inspired by Courtney Love.

When I was a Tori Amos fan, I could rarely make sense of her lyrics. However, the title alone of "Professional Widow" (on the Boys for Pele album, which came out in 1996) had me wondering if it was about Courtney Love.

"in fact the first she ever heard of him was when she heard in bloom on the radio...."

How could she have heard "In Bloom" on the radio before "Smells Like Teen Spirit," which was the first single off of Nevermind?

talk about crooks here is a story for you.

I have a story for you to print about an "indie rock"
record store in Williamsburg Brooklyn. Sound Fix
Records. Not sure if your familiar with them. Well,
the owner called me and told me he wanted to hire me
as a consultant to help grow his website where he
sells CD's. I have been a customer there for years so
I trusted him and gave him a 1 hour consultation and
gave him an entire marketing plan to help his
business. I told him my fees and the cost and he said
he definately wanted to move forward and the next step
was a contract. He then made me come in for a 2nd
free consultation to meet with his web designer, a
"super genius" apple guy. He then made me repeat
everything to his designer and told me to make the
contract to have to him by Monday. He would just tell
me the exact amount of his spending. Anyway, come
Monday and I give him a call. He tells me he has
"hired" someone else and he had the right to interview
me. First of all, I gave him 2 free hours of my time
(I have 8 years professional internet marketing
expereince) and an entire marketing plan under the
pretense that he commited to hire me. This man is a
crook. I would really like the community to know that
so they don't support such a crooked man. Please
email me with any questions. I would much appreciate
it if you can print this on Brooklyn Vegan. Don't go
to Sound Fox Records in Williamsburg!!!!!

get over it, you should have charged him upfront for your time.

I can remember Everett True writing that article in Melody Maker and it was early 1991 at a Butthole Surfers concert.

Personally, I'm sick to death about reading about her. One drug addict in a relationship is bad enough; two is a nightmare. Nirvana were going to implode anyway so the "Yoko" tag is a bit heavy. If you read Azerard's book, he was a deeply depressed guy who would have killed himself anyway.

I think it's funny that Cobain fans try to blame everything on her. I'm no fan but she didn't kill him despite what a thousand conspiracy theorists like Nick Broomfield try to say

Posted by Irishbob | September 26, 2006 10:47 AM

i think it's the one where he sings about something being "stupid" and "contagious" and how "it's fun to lose and pretend she's overboard".

also, eight years of experience and you don't know to sign the contract and THEN hand over the goods? Geez, the American Indians negotiated a better deal for Manhattan than you did here.

hope Soundfix didn't give you any blankets.

I think it was whichever song he was complaining about something being "stupid" and "contagious" and how "it's fun to lose and pretend she's overboard"

also, ... you've got eight years of experience and yet you handed over the goods BEFORE signing the contract? shit, the Indians negotiated a better deal for Manhattan.

I hope Soundfix didn't give you any blankets.

Posted by NATALIA | January 9, 2008 1:42 PM

Bitch!
none of those songs were even related to her Drain You about Kurt's battle against Heroin and his first kiss
She killed him she even said "Dead Rockers Sell Better Than When They Are Alive" she sucks ass
only reason why Kurt Cobain married her was because she was pregnant

Posted by She Killed Him!! | August 1, 2009 2:12 PM

Damn, so, ALL Kurt Cobain songs are about Tobi Vail??? CUT THE SH*T, THEY ONLY DATED FOR 3 FREAKING MONTHS! They were friends and the only song(s) he wrote for her was Lounge Act and probably Aneurysm.
