Live Nation vs. Ticketmaster (on cutting prices)

"On one side is Live Nation Inc. Chief Executive Michael Rapino, who has vowed to drive down prices that last year soared to an average of $57 per ticket for the most popular shows. On the other side is Ticketmaster, which dominates music ticket sales through its thousands of outlets and Internet sites." [LA Times] (thx Sam)

Judging from the article, it sounds more like Live Nation wants to get more than the 50% cut of the ticketmaster fees it currently gets and is threatening to cut ticketmaster off if they don't get it.

I just think it's insane to pay anything over $60 for a concert ticket, no matter who it is. I was considering buying from either of these vendors and would rather spend my money on anything else in the world than their profits. Sorry (insert favorite band here), but I'll just have to stick with listening to your CD at home and just using my imagination. If everyone did this (which everyone won't), these companies would have no choice but to drop prices. It's that simple.

Ticketmaster is being spun off from it's parent company IAC. Watch for it to be taken over by Live Nation after that happens!
