i vaguely remember them having one song a long ass tme ago.
it was kind of pop-y and not very good.
i'd have a fear of getting up on a stage and playing that crap too

It was called Perfect Way and you need to remember to listen to more than that one song, it's called an album.

All of his new songs sound like Yogurt commercials.

They had one song, very 80s called Shiny Shiny that moved up the UK charts. Interesting that they are touring the US without any real following.

"They had one song, very 80s called Shiny Shiny..."
Shiny Shiny was by Haysi Fantayzee, y'all. It was "Perfect Way".
Scritti Politti started out playing very reggae-inspired punk in the late 70s/early 80s, and then Green moved to New York and decided he wanted to make pop music. "Cupid & Psyche 85" is possibly the best example of 80s pop you'll ever hear, but it's got some new wave-y keyboards that still captivate to this day. "Perfect Way" was their biggest hit in the US but their UK singles were way better: "Wood Beez (Pray Like Aretha Franklin)", "Absolute", and "Hypnotize". WLIR played all of these singles throughout 1984 so in 1985 I was able to boast to my friends that I had all of Scritti's singles (including the pre-pop stuff from Rough Trade) way before Cupid came out. Listen to "Absolute (Version)" - a favorite of mine for many years. It's poppy but trippy at the same time.
And the fans are still out there - there's are active Yahoo groups and fansites on the web with many members.

If you lived within range of 'LIR's transmitter in '84, you have no business saying "y'all."

Scritti Politti have tons of fans will sell out Bowery with no effort. They started as a very art damaged pop rock band on Rough Trade and have a very illustrious history. The record that came out before this one "Anomie & Bonhomie" is pretty spectacular.

I lived within range of both LIR's and WNYU's transmitter! I grew up with the Screamer of the Week as well as the New Afternoon Show. I just got out of a relationship with a black girl - she punctuated everything with "y'all" and was hot so it's going to be hard to break the habit.
